New EP engineered and produced by yours truly. These aren't final mixes or anything, but it's getting there- I need to master and EQ with some decent speakaz at Bognor, but it's not sounding bad. I had 3(!) mics on the drums this time, makes a world of difference.
As always, I'm on bass and some vox. 3 of the 7 tracks (
Heat,
Strobes and
Sexxx) are songs from our first/most recent EP but we figured we might as well try it again in a more favourable recording situation.
Check it out, would be cool to have some feedback.

Sounds fucking good to me doog. Although if I HAD to be finicky the drums sometimes sounded too reverby? But there great songs I LIKE!
FUCK EVERYONE ELSE.

I'm conflicted with this one.... I do like the music (quite a bit actually) but the vocals put me off. Theyre grating after more than one song and they make the tracks sound very samey even though they're not.

Maybe I'm just getting old. Def more of a sound I'd listen to live compared to on record.
I'm often tempted to visit my old Jazzmaster by watching my friends band, but the music keeps getting in the way!

Rocks. You guys do what you do exceptionally well - there's a throaty exuberance to the whole thang that digs deep. Chortled and smiled at some o them lyrics - Keira Knightley etc. - and cheered at some of the unexpected twists within the songs.
Recording sounds just fine to me.
One reservation - the (okay, Pixieesque...) unpredictability of structure and full-on vox could benefit from some light and shade.
I dunno, I've always liked that definition of music as all being about the creation and resolution of tension. Dunno if that means owt to you.
Anyways, thanks for the listen.
"You've all done very well!"

Upon reflection with other headphones, these mixes are pretty damn bright and vocal-heavy.. have been tweaked a fair bit since these mixes..
As far as the whole dynamic thing goes- I dunno, it's just funner to make a loud noise straight after a quiet one, we're not a band of subtlety, truth be told.. but I know whatcha mean. The songwriting isn't quite what I'd do with the songs personally, but I'm not really the songwriter in the band, me and Mr Drums just sometimes help with structures, and "feels" and stuff.
Thanks for listening, all!
