I have the opportunity to pick up a Jeff Beck signature series strat. The one with the lace sensors. It's purple.I'm seeing they usually sell for 1200-1400 USD or so.I can get this one for under 600.It's mint condition w/case.I don't even see these on the bay.So,opinions..quick cash turnaround or avoid like the plague?

Get it, play it for 3 weeks, if you don't like it sell it. Unless of course you're being offered it at 'mates rates' and there's the ethical question of making a profit on a friends generosity as opposed to a cheap deal through a classifieds or whatever.

Even so, he'll be able to offload it for the same mate's rate with a guaranteed quick sale if he does decide to be all moral and that. Either easy profits or easy sale, can't lose with a mate's rate, that's what friends are for.

I saw Jeff Beck playing on the Later with Jools Holland "Guitar Heroes" edition. I was bored to fucking tears.
I really hate the way he plays guitar.

He's possibly the best guitarist in the world, have you listened to a variety of his stuff?

Best Guitarist my Arse.
He plays predominantly instrumental jam-based rock music. It is fucking boring.

I like guitarists who can clearly play the guitar and also write songs or write for the song, showiness is so much less important to me than pop sensibility.
To that end my favourite five guitarists are:
1. Elliott Smith - technically incredibly gifted, and there's no finer weaver of an acoustic guitar melody.
2. Joey Santiago - his guitar parts are perfect. Simple? Understated? Absolutely, and Essential. The solo line in Hey typifies his genius. Simple to play? Yes. Simple to write? I don't think so.
3. Ed O'Brien/Jonny Greenwood - what they do in Radiohead is fantastic.
4. Joe Strummer - Rock solid rhythm for days
5. Dave Gilmour - Just sublime. The only "Guitar Player's Guitarist" that I love, because he writes for the song, his solos are like vocal lead lines, and he's not overly showy. Plus he sings and writes a fantastic song.
Laugh away, but these people I would argue are far more worthy of praise than firework guitarists of the ilk of Malmsteen, Rhodes, Vai, Satriani and Beck.

No, i was'nt going to laugh.. i was joking.
Good list, Greenwood is a bit showy though but in a nerdy pedal boy way, so i suppose he's acceptable to you.
I love shredders and the like but my favourates are more likely people like Townsend, Andy Summers, Johnny Marr, J Mascis and early John Squire. But you know i like that stuff, i just more so fly the shred flag on here in an attempt to annoy people.
Anyway, apologies Tom for the hijack.

Hmmm...purple's a purdy good reason to not buy a guitar, in my book. You have to be a real muso to play a purple guitar. Or Prince. No, he never had a purple one, did he? Who's got a purple guitar, fuxake?
Other than that, tho, it sounds like a good deal.
