Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and i am and have been the proud owner of a 72 tele deluxe RI. I have been tossing the idea around of doing some upgrades and one was putting 1 meg pots in it. I was wondering if its worth it putting some in. I know mike has done it and said it improves the sound.

worse case scenario you have to change them back out, and re-sell them and you lose 4-5 bucks and some time.
but its worth knowing.

Electronically, it makes more sense to use 1MEG. 500K makes the most sense, but it's much cooler to have 1,000,000 ohms of resistance.

There are some equations involving inductance and impedance that prove it.

If you find that your pickups are lacking in brightness, give it a shot. It literally takes a few minutes to do, so reversing the mod takes just a few minutes more.

I just did this mod for the first time myself a couple of weeks ago. The pickups were too muddy with 250k pots, but they brightened up nicely with 1 meg pots.

I found it made a massive difference to my Telecaster Deluxe, it increased the brightness and upper midrange attack of the pickups.

Yeah its pretty straight forward, draw a diagram first of what goes where then copy it. Make sure the iron is hot, heat both wire and terminal for a few seconds then add solder. Your looking for a strong shiny solder joint. Be gentle removing the cap though, its easy to pull the legs out in some cases.

Comparable to playing with a blanket over your amp. Upgrading pickups alone can transform most budget instruments, pots, caps and wiring often get overlooked. Its something i have gotten into more recently.

yes. draw a diagram i went through this issue before with a previous guitar of mine and believe me, you will save yourself from a headache.

yea but whats funny is all of them are not necessarily made by dimarzio. i believe the 250k are made in mexico the 500k are made in taiwan and the 1meg I'm not sure of.....possibly mexico but the mex ones are supposedly the best they have from what i hear.

I've gotta agree about this. But not only that but there is a big tonal advantage in raising the action a wee bit as well. There is too much emphasis on low action these days. Raising the saddles a turn on ultra low and kinda low setups always opens them out to me.

i know they make a bunch of other crap. i just didn't know that they manufacture pots.
