I think it planted a seed in the back of my mind somewhere like "I want one of those one day".

Me finding one of Mike's demos and coming here defiantely upped the shortscale love 1000% though.

His live sound is arse though, even here.

I'm not sure if it was him or Sonic Youth that turned me onto offsets but it was nirvana's set destruction at the MTV Music awards that for me, was that one cathartic moment in a person's life where he thinks to himself: "this is definitely what I want to do with my life".

Kurt made me get my first Duo-Sonic II. The Mustang was because of SY, though.

i didnt pay much attention back in the day--- except for nevermind which was shoved down our throats
ive only been playing guitar for a few years--- so i am having fun playing his stuff
i saw a jazzmaster on you tube and i was hooked--- i guess some of us a genetically pre disposed to run from the normal
then i discovered short scale guitars and thats how i roll now

I definately was turned on to offsets by him, I'm kinda a Cobain dork (Read 2 bios).

I didn't get into Nirvana until my junior year of high school.. I mean... I liked them but never cared enough to watch videos or research what he played or pay attention to that. All the bands I listened to played strats, les pauls, teles or sg's at that point. But for some reason I was just always drawn to offsets and shortscales. The first ones I saw were the toronado and the cyclone, then one of my friends had a mustang that I really liked the look of, and I pretty much just always liked the look of them, not really because any bands I knew played them. I have a really old AVRI Jazzmaster/jaguar ad from a guitar player magazine on my wall that's been there ever since I started playing because I loved them, but for some reason I've never owned either a jag or a jazzy... my next electric guitar purchase will be a jazzy though.

I was sort of down with nirvana since Nevermind, but I htought jags and jazzmasters were hideous. Then I played a jazzmaster, got ahuge boner, and I was sold. THEN i started getting into guitar more, and nirvana because of it.

I remember the time we were all in the lunchroom in middle school and this girl Tara came up to our group and was like, "did you hear? Kurt Cobain killed himself!" everyone was like, "whoa...." and I was like "who is Kurt Cobain?" haha, shortly thereafter I started getting into music. They were still playing out the Nirvana tunes on MTV. I got that muddy banks of the wishkah album and I remember being actually frightened by it because it was so heavy. That is still one of my favorite live albums. It sounds so fucking RAW.

I didn't start getting into offset type guitars until I started listening to My Bloody Valentine. Someday I will get a Jazzmaster. That's kinda my dream guitar. I'm just too much of a cheap bastard to get my hands on one.

My first foray into Jaguarland was a Jazzmaster, so I was in it for the weird look of the guitar. I got the Jag because it was more playable (and shiny) than the Jazzy.

Back in the day one of the guys I played hockey with sent me the Bleach Sub Pop tape over and I loved it, possibly a bit too much. So by the time Nevermind came out over here I'd sickened myself of Nirvana and I didn't like the way Nevermind sounded/was produced. Too clean. I didn't get back into them until unplugged. That gave me a new appreciation to Cobains skills for writing a great pop song with a twist.

I remember watching that on TV when it was on, and being deeply impressed, but I was already an affirmed Jag lover - mine springs from Sonic Youth, and a Guitarist interview with them called "Taming the Jaguar", read it when I was 15 or so.

Honestly, yes. I was 16 when Nevermind came out, I was a big fan and Nirvana/SY/Pixies/Mudhoney were a huge influence on me, and the guitars I like.

Seeing Nirvana, Mudhoney, Therapy, L7, Melvins, Screaming Trees etc at Reading in 92 was awesome too, still the best gig I've ever been to.

EDIT: I remember watching that clip above live, it was an awesome moment, so completely and utterly out of place. Jonathan Ross was very straight laced then.

I watched the Live Tonight! Sold Out! video scores of times, including that performance. I never even noticed what guitar he played other than that it was sunburst so I thought it was shit. A little while later I read tha he used a Jaguar and thought I should at least see what they looked like, then as if buy magic the next guitar magazine I purchased had a "what's so great about.." section on the jaguar. Only a little coloumn down the side of one page, but at the top was a picture of a jag with a yellow finish and a nice looking tort. I remember thinking "damn that's a fine looking guitar" and trying to find out about them straight away. I heard about the jag-stang shortly after and found jag-stang.com when I went to find a picture of one online. I never really wanted any of Kurt's gear despite being a huge Nirvana fan.

I did buy a DS-1 in order to play the clean intro and then distorted part of smells like teen spirit, but I picked the DS-1 because it said "distortion" on it and it was cheaper than the alternatives in the shop (benecol, that shop with the scottish bloke).

There is something alluring about that Jaguar, humbuckers and silliness and all, but I actually much prefer the look of the stock ones. Blocks & Binding is fabulous though.
