For this job I sacrificed one two of the back speakers in my 87' honda accord. Housing and all. And a blue guitar cable. Haven't tried it on kick but it def picks up some sub frequencies!

And here is why I kept it in the housing the second time....

I made one of those awhile back. Don't really use it all that much. I made mine out of an old speaker in cabinet.

Odd that you're using a guitar cable--why not use a balanced cable? I think the impedance is going to be off if you want to use it like a mic.

I'm running it through the DI. And it seems to be working right. Not too noisy or anything. I might modify it later.

I've seen people do it both ways, balanced and unbalanced. Yes, Domokun guards my studio. Its unfortunate that mainstream has caught on to domokun though.

I've been wanting to make one of those, but the way this guy did it at instructables.com with a drum shell, it looks fucking sweet:

That would be sweet, but I don't have an extra drum laying around haha.

Yeah, the original Yamaha Subkick comes like that:

Certainly looks cool with a kit:

I am going to do a more complex miking for the drums on the new record I'll be working on. So I am upgrading my system to have 16 inputs instead of 8 inputs.

Things I still need before I start tracking

Sub Kick Mic
AKG 414 BXLS (So I'll have two total for room mics or overheads)
Shure SM-7
Aphex 142 converter
Cables and Stuff...

And more Pre's!

Tested it against my friends diy subkick. I get a really nice deep kick sound. Probably about somewhere in the 50-150 range. My friends was more resonate than mine. I still need to test it against the actual thing though.
