What are the differences in sound and construction between MIJ and AVRI Jazzmaster pickups? What pickups have you all tried and what ones would you recommend?

Japanese pickups sound like broken glass in a tin can, and are constructed just like strat pickups (but osmehow sound a htousadn times worse) except for the big black, uh cardboard type stuff on top and bottom to make htem look like JM pickups.
AVRI pickups are wound wide and flat, like original JM pickups were, and they sound wuite nice, IMHO. Duncans are a popular upgrade, I had a quarter pounder, and it was positively awesome. It was a bit more aggresive than some owuld like, tonnnns of bass; and super loud compared to the AVRI i had in the bridge.

Angry Duncan Jazzy pups sound goood. I got a hurb set on my MIJ. The quarter pounder makes sense for the bridge. Loud and good for the noisey gains. Antiquity II for the neck!

I have a Made in Japan Jazzmaster and whilst it sounded good I thought it should sound better. After a bit of research I went and had the Seymour Duncan pickups put in...SJM2 in the neck and SJM3 Quarterpounder in the bridge. The difference is amazing...it now sounds fuller, lush, lots of tone and louder...the guitar shop that changed them for me commented that the guitar sounded much better than the Classic Jazzmaster they had in stock.

I have tried Seymour Duncans Hot and I hate them, they are holding me back ... they lead too much to the dark side. Which means, they sound like a Jazzmaster with a Towel thrown over it to me. I will put the Japan ones back in and maybe someday go for some Novak or Barfuss PUs.
