The stock one is smaller than a regular Mustang RI guard to simulate the Shrinking of the Pearloid that takes place with Aging. I don't know if a standard 69RI Guard would fit without the bridge and control plate gaps or whether it would be too big. You need to persuade robroe to take the guards off both his Mustangs.

I put a 4 ply perloid 65 ri guard on my competition ri. It did not fit that well at first. It did fit just fine after I loosened the bridge plate & control plate and tightened down the guard first. The bridge plate fits up against it flush and the control plate has a slight gap on the bottom half. I would say the holes for the 65 & 69 ri's are the same. An original guard will not fit as the reissues have the pups spaced slightly further apart.
