holy crap! where does this guy find this stuff? it's not a '79, though. international colors were only offered in '81.
rustoleum actually makes a spraypaint that is very close to maui blue. it's called "caribbean blue".

I saw the auction, but the pickups look chewed to hell. Is that natural?

It is but only because the pictures show the bottoms of the pickups. They've been placed upside down in the route to show the wiring and the base plate. I'm not sure why there are no photos showing the pickup covers from the normal view, perhaps they aren't in the best condition.
It says -
Bass is in excellent condition.
Body finish is clean only has some wear on the bottom bout by the rear strap button.
I would describe that as quite extensive wear, rather than just 'some', so who knows what they mean when they say excellent condition. There's a ding on the back and one o the back of the upper horn, so it's possible they also overlooked describing slight damage to the pickup covers.
