I played a vintage vibe squier duo sonic today

Not bad. I didn't plug it in, but it was the lightest guitar I've ever held. Light as an acoustic or maybe lighter. The wood felt cheap on the body, almost like it was gonna snap in half at any moment. Neck felt good though, alot like the vintage vibe tele necks.

ANyone else play this/buy this yet?

I played one of those a couple weeks ago and hated it the sound of it... but that might have been more because of the amp that I played through. The only decent amp they had at that shop was an Eden all tube 300 watt head, so it's pretty much like my Ampeg SVT except it sounded like shit.

I played the classic vibe jazz through an SVT though and it sounded fucking amazing! So I bet that through the right amp the p bass would sound good too.

cowbell, i picked up the new duo sonic after picking up the CV tele and the tele felt like it was made of lead compared to the duo.

i did A/B test in both arms at the same time. i swear the duo weighs like 3 pounds

I'd like it so much more if I didn't see that staring in my face everytime I look at it now.

Have you seen one IRL? The gap looks even bigger!

I played the Tele and Duo. Both were great, but the gap was boner kill. Like a hot chick with a huge ass gap in her teeth.

The tele was ace - If I was in the market for a tele it would be my first choice.

Fuckyeah I want the tele gay. I've been trying to get a tele since 2006 and so far I've got a jazzmaster and a jaguar hahaha. 2009 will finally be the year of the tele.

Your description of the weight makes it sound a lot like the 90s duo.

so did the bridge pickup sound good or not? I love how everyone likes to talk shit on the pickup placement and they've never even played one.

Even if it sounds alright it's still an eyesore.

The gut shot I saw had really small pup routes - like a mustang with the little shielding plates tacked in. You'd have to do some routing if you wanted to move it back.

Or just make it a musicmaster.

Yeah everyone makes fake anodised guards with the pickup in a different place.

Fact of the matter is it's stupid. The pickup should be moved, it's in a dumb place.

the space between the neck pup and the neck on the vintage ones always bothered me a bit, just the space tho, nothing else, so i guess they corrected that, but made a bigger space between the bridge and bridge pup.

When I went to pick it off the wall and lifted it up, I almost put it through the ceiling of the place. I felt like superman and didn't know my own strength, then realized the guitar was just light as shit.

It played nice...but that vibe tele kicks its ass hard. DO WANT.

Hi there. I just joined this site. I played one of the vintage vibe duosonics at my local music store (Modern Music on Oakland Park BLVD, Ft. Lauderdale, 30 years and counting) and thought it was a hoot. I love the feel of the short scale neck. I'm mainly a pianist, and have come around to electric guitar finally after years of 12 string. Now I'm way into it, thanks to youtube tutorials...
I almost bought the little thing....I have a short scale squier bass that I bought back in the nineties when fender reissued some of the custom colors...like shell pink. I saw it, and just had to have a bass the color of grandma's bathroom. It is, in point of fact, a really sweet little bass. Plays like a dream and perfect intonation. I guess some people would sniff at the little single coil pickup on her, but hey, I used it in a musical production of Superstar and it was terrific.
But I digress......I went on the hunt for a vintage duosonic, since I though I might be able to actually afford one, should one appear. There aren't that many around, as far as I can tell. Maybe on this site we will learn where they are all hiding.
I did find a 1959 in collectible condition. desert sand, slab neck, all original. It is not the same thing AT ALL. This is a great little guitar....plays like butter, chords lock in and give a nice classic sound. It sounds different than a strat, of course, but it's equally groovy. On ebay there have been a couple of battered 63's and 64's. one red, and one a spurious "sienna sunburst" which is not listed in Gruhn's as one of the colors. Would anybody order a custom color on a kiddie guitar in 1963? Seems doubtful....there's a lot of fakery on ebay....

the sienna sunburst was common, i know i have seen it a few times before, and buddy holly played a duo sonic!
