Jaguar plate for toggle switch???

Brief introduction... Hello, gentleman. New to this forum (I'm woodyjunior at Harmony-Central and candypants at The Gear Page).

I'm being seduced by the charms and allure of the shortscale. A Jaguar, in particular.

This may be sacrilege here, but I'm considering a Classic Player HH Jag for the express purpose of replacing the stock pickups with Seymour Duncan P-Rails. That would open up all kinds of sound options. Most of the switches and gadgetry lends itself nicely to tapping into the flexibility of the P-Rails (series hum, parallel hum, P90s or single coils).

The only thing I'm struggling with, is where/how to incorporate a three-way toggle. Does anyone know where I can get a switch plate that will accommodate a toggle switch? So far the only place I've been directed to is a luthier in France. They have a "Kurt Cobain" type plate that would be great, but they are not returning emails... at least to Americans: http://www.huort-ch.com/lang_eng/en_hardware.htm

Any other ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance...

No other ideas, sorry. All I can tell you is, he returned all my emails, and I got one.
Might take him a while, maybe he's busy.

He'll get back to you, he's out of stock at the moment but will have more in December, he'll definitely sort you out. He's the only place I know of also.

Cool... I'll be patient, then.

What is the price for a Cobain-style plate?

Don't recall, but I think he's got a price list on the website.

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately those plates are temporary out of stock. They are under process until December.

I keep you posted when available.

Best regards,

if Bobroe wasn't retired right now and still was a machinist at Corning Glass he could make one in like 2 minutes.

Any possibilities of a Brett Favre-like decision to come out of retirement? :D

Mike, thanks for the info. Is that a Classic Player Jag in your avatar? If so, how do you like it? I've heard the bum rap on the Classic Players are the quality (or lack thereof) in the electronic components...

It is a Classic Player. Anything you've heard about poor quality is bollocks. The pickups are far better than CIJ pickups and all the electronics looked spiffy to me when I modded it recently.

Maybe he should come out of retirement, or someone should; the part wasn't terribly costly but shipping it to USA cost again as much, IIRC.

Re: electronics quality: ??? since I've been reading these boards, I've never read that about any of the MIM Classic Player series of guitars, but frequently read it about CIJ. Maybe you got these confused? But in any event, the tech who did work on mine thought it was fine. I specifically asked him.

People talk a lot of shit about things they have no experience of. Particular when something new arrives. A lot of CIJ and AVRI owners on places like offset were bitching about the QC before even seeing them.

I think too many people go into panic station mode when they hear bad stuff (I've been guilty of that myself), especially about newly released goods. I had heard a few bad things (first hand from the guitar shop that had to send them back) but that was just 2 unlucky guitars with fluffed components not a stain on the goodness of all MIM guitars. Hell there was someone posting on offset that their new AVRI had electric issues. It's just a fact of life that now and again certain problems will pop up on the odd instrument.

Now that these have been out for a while it's fair to say that these guitars have been a great succes. MIM stuff has come a long way.

the only reason why people complain about the MIM Jaguars is because they are made in mexico...Some people can seem to look beyond that...

I've been impressed with the Classic Player series so far. I've spent some time with the strats and a Jazzy. The necks are phenomenal! I've had several MIM Fenders that blow away many USA counterparts.

I'm not alarmed by the electronics - that's nothing I can't repair on my own - but you guys are probably right. I've seen a couple posts on other forums questioning the integrity of the electronics due to some poor connections coming out of the factory, but that's going to happen on occasion with anything mass-produced. I have definitely heard about questionable components in the CIJ stuff.

Basically, I'm more interested in the wood, the hardware and the construction - wiring is the easiest thing to change.

What mods did you make?

Nevermind.... I just read through your thread. Sensible mods. Good work.

I bet if one of you guys sent Chico your jag plate, he could make them.

Hey you know all those Vintage 50s and 60s Strats, Telecasters, Jaguars and Jazzmasters everyone covets?

Do you know who they were made by?

Unskilled Mexican labour in a factory just across the border. That's right - pull your head out of your arse and you might learn something.

WTF? That looks like a were-pig dinosaur.

Think back to the earliest coveted guitars in the 50s--they were signed by Tadeo Gomez! Fender has employed a latino workforce for its entire history. Haven't you seen El Mariachi? These guitars were originally marketed as "spanish" stylee.
