Amp tech question

Post by Will »

I'm looking to convert the 6.3V heater supply in my Champ 12 to DC in order to cut down on ambient hum. From what I've seen so far, all I should have to do is add a small bridge rectifier and filter cap. A 1000uf/25v cap should work fine, but what type of diode should I use? Would the standard Radio Shack 1Amp Rectifier diodes work OK?

Here is the schematic if it makes a difference:

Is it really that bad or is this a boredom thing? I don't have a great answer other than check out "the real mctube" it's a tube distortion pedal with instructions online that I made and it has a couple rectification circuits one of which is similair to what you're describing (I think). It should list the values for you. I got the diodes I needed from rat shack. Just make sure you make safety precautions before you mess with a tube amp. Anyone got a better a better answer for him?

Really slow server/connection probably. It's happened me before. I'll hit submit, and nothing happens. I hit it again two minutes later, and have double posted, two minutes apart.
