Howdy, new to the forum but have been lurking for some time. Been playing off an on for 8 years. Started with a MIM strat, then a LP. I played my first short scale a little over a year ago and fell in love. I have small hands and the short scale made all the difference. I sold my strat and LP and currently have a Jag HH that I put seymour duncan JB in the bridge and Jazz in the neck. I'm more of a single coil guy but I use the Jag for ac/dc, skynyrd, ozzy, van halen. My main axe is a 65RI mustang that I swapped the PU for seymour SSL1 in the neck and SSL5 in the bridge.

I really like the new Classic Player Jag in the single coil but they released it right after I bought my mustang so could not justify buying it then. But I found a 2008 CIJ Jag on ebay that I fell in love with so I pulled the trigger. It's the single coil in candy apple red with matching headstock and block inlays on the fretboard. Once I get it (hopefully next week) I will decide if I'm going to keep my mustang or sell it. I'm not sure if I will stick with the stock pickups or swap the SSL1 and SSL5 out of my mustang. One question is do the CIJ jags have the same pickups as the 2008 MIM Jaguar? I will post some photos if anyone cares to see.

CAR + matching stock + blocks = yesyesyes.
The MIMs have hotter pickups than the CIJ jags.

I don't think they do but there are some experts that will probably be more help...

I think the Japanese market Jags (like the B+B ones) come in quite a few versions, I don't know if that that extends to the pickups in your version though. The MIM Jags have better stock pups than the Japanese ones as far as I know/have been told.

It wouldn't hurt to try the pups from your Mustang in it if yoiu find the stock ones lacking.

i think one of the selling points of the new jaguars was that they came with "hot" pickups. so they shouldn't be the same as MIJ/CIJ

Fender also said back in 1994 that the jagstang came with special design pickups.

Huh ! you mean you don't think they are hot pickups??

OK well I have mine out now, I haven't taken a meter to them, but on the back is written "11.000" and "12.000" respectively.
Assuming those are ohmage, those specs seem pretty hot for single coil pickups to me. Not to you ??

BTW, they didn't say the pickups are "better", just "hotter". "better" is a matter of personal taste.

I can't speak to the prior jag-stang situation.

The new MIM Jaguars do have much better pickups than the CIJ ones. They're more defined and less microphonic.

Thanks guys. I will check them (pickups) out when I get the guitar and let you know. I will also post some pics! What's a good asking price on a 6 month old 65RI mustang (dakota red)? I'm probably going to sell my Mustang when I get the Jaguar.

Less than what you paid unfortunately.

Guitar worth is relative. If you love it, it's worth every penny. Both of those sound like winners. I would hang onto them unless you're starving.

Those sound like hot pickups all right. I think he was just saying the pups were different model issues, not stating a preference.

I've never understood why the Japanese can build such amazing quality guitars, but then choose to stick crappy pickups in them. At least it's an easy fix.

That's true. I was just thinking of the Fender Japan offsets when I wrote that. I've actually owned and played several really good Japanese guitars and basses from the 70s and 80s, and they all sounded amazing (and were quality in every way). But still, why the lack of effort when it comes to the pickups in the Japanese Fender offsets? Would it kill them to make a jazzmaster pickup that isn't a disguised strat pickup? Or to pot the damned things?

well to save moneys reallly you pay say 600 theyve only spent 300 making the guitar all profit i guess

Well I got the new Jaguar on Friday and it is a beauty! I like the stock pickups a lot and think I'll be leaving them in. I put on some locking tuners and 11's and she plays like a dream. The bridge pickup sounds better then my ssl-5 and the neck pickup sounds really good, just a little less hot than the ssl-1.
