'Ow do,

With my Jag and Quarter Pound on the way I enquired about having the QP PUP installed and the guy said £35.....is that about right? Last time I had it done it cost me £15 - however that was 2001/02 - has it gone up that much?

So tips please - I've read the info from Seymour Duncan and it says if I'm using my SD Pup with a Fender one, I have to solder the white wire to where the black one was and vice versa. Does that sound about right to you guys?

Also, if I get another SD one at a later date I'm guessing I swap the wires for the bridge pup back around again?

I've no idea how much places charge, but you could buy a soldering iron and do it yourself for less than £15. Plus you would them own a soldering iron.It's really quite simply. You might make a mistake if you were doing the whole guitar, but replacing one pickup isn't too hard. If they can teach guitar shop employees to do it, I'm sure you could do it.

35 quid? Bugger that, like James said, get yourself an iron and do it. Soldering really isn't too hard and it's a seymour duncan pup so you'll be able to find a diagram for it online if you get stuck.

seriously though it ain't hard mate. do it yourself.

if i can do it a blind child with no hands can do it. practice on some old cable first if you're not sure.

£35 is ridiculous. I'd want coil tapping and an active circuit for that. The guy probably knows nothing about Jaguars, saw all the switches and shit himself. When in reality its a case of soldering two wires.

im not sure what that is in usd but it seems high,
usually(for me) a single coil 2 contact point pickup swap is like 15 bucks, and thats just becuz of removing the strings, taking off the guard, etc etc.

i'm not sure about swapping the wires around. black has been ground on every fender-centric single coil i've ever seen. if it doesn't work, you could try swapping the wires.
if your jag has a brass shielding plate, you could just solder the ground wire to that plate.

Sometimes there can be a phasing issue if you use a SD and Fender combined. Swapping the wires around corrects that. I'd follow the Duncan instructions.

Aye I was gonna say the SD might be wound in reverse compared to the stock pup.

Unless you want to change the inbetween sound to be in or out of phase depending on what it is now, best to stick to their guides.

So that's all there is to it - put the new wires where the original ones were except the other way round with regards to colours - screw everything back where it should be and I'm done.

and hell, it can be fun if it works.
