Wampler Pedals

I really like this guy's stuff. I think he makes some really great dirt pedals, the Pinnacle, Plexidrive and Plextortion are all fantastic.

The Pinnacle is like a hotrodded JCM800/Plexi (EVH sort of sound), he talks for a bit at the start but when he starts playing it sounds great.

Plexidrive - JTM45 style AC/DC stuff

Plextortion - my favourite because of the flexible 4-band EQ

I think all that I find disappointing is that he uses a strip of decal to ID the controls rather than decals by each control so instead of this:

Code: Select all

Tone Contour
  O O

Level Gain
   O O
you get this:

Code: Select all

   O O

   O O

Tone Contour
Level Gain
A minor point but it bugs me. If the exchange rate was more decent I would consider buying one (and if my boiler hadn't died), but it's stupid at the moment.

They do sound good for sure.

I've built a Plextortion before, it's a Guv'nor MKI with Red LED clippers, with a treble booster Presence control and some cap and resistor swaps.

I think the rest are original designs.

And a boost as well. I always think a boost is a useful thing in that kind of pedal which is trying to emulate a different amp in one pedal

True, and they're so simple to implement, particularly if you are using PCB or whatever.
