Wow! 1985 ATE `67 Tokai Paisley Telecaster, closest to a real one I have ever seen this one sold for $1425 on Ebay last week. From the ad:

"Here`s a 1985 ATE `67 Tokai Paisley Telecaster in excellent condition. I`ve upgraded it with a set of Jake Jones Vintage Tele pickups (made to nail James Burton`s `52 Tele tone and next to impossible to find) plus the wiring has been changed to `52 specs ( a quick fix if it`s not to your taste) Other details include a bird`s eye maple neck, a Final Pro Spec bridge plate and the back plate # is L 25352.This instrument plays and sounds amazing and the only (minor) issue is three small check lines on the front of the body. I am also including a servicable case plus the original set of Tokai pickups. In addition to the shipping cost will be a $10 fee for professional packing to ensure maximum safety in transit. All in all, this is a great opportunity for any player who wants the most authentic looking, killer sounding paisley without a monster price tag! I welcome any and all questions so please feel free to e-mail me and good luck! "

Pretty close, both look great. I have a Jay Turser paisley tele copy that's really nice for a 150 dollar guitar.

I heard somewhere on teh intertubes that the paisley print was originally surplus wallpaper that Fender bought or something... I'm probably imagining this though.

No,it is true.Fender Japan made copies of the original wall paper in the Fender vaults to make their versions.Only problem was they used up there original copies of the wallpaper in the 80's and when the remade the guitars around 2002-2008 they had to make new paper that was the wrong color(the newer ones have a silver background instead of gold).

I didn't realize that the pink paisely guitars were made up until the 80's. I had always thought the were a short run in the late 60's. Did they make paisely strats too? Or did the strats only get the blue flower wallpaper?

The american ones were only made in the 60's or early 70's,the japanese copies were made in the 80's and 90's those ones have "Made in Japan" on the neck. They reissued them around 2002 and again in2008,those have "Crafted in Japan" on the neck. They did make Pink Paisley Strats too.

This is a 80's version

I've read that in the 80's Fender sent a swatch of the original to japan to be be copied. The backround on the original was gold foil but in later reissues it changed to silver foil. Here is some info on the original 72' reissues The later ones were based on the 62' stratocaster reissue and apparently the newest version has "Made in Japan" on the neck like the older reissues(but without the 3-screw neck plate or bullet trussrod). The Pickguard is different on the older and newer reissues, with the 80s/90s versios being closer to the original. Oh,and while Fender in the USA made a Pink Paisley Stratocaster(Pete Townsend had one) They never made a Blue Flower Stratocaster.Only a Telecaster. At least that what I remember reading on the interweb when I bought a 2002 Blue Flower strat on Ebay($399BIN).

Right now is the closest I've been in recent years to wanting a strat. If one of these comes up on UK ebay and the price isn't too high I might have to go for it.

Supposedly Fender also ripped off the idea from some guy who sent in his Fender for repair and had a similar decoration.

Upon deciding to attempt this, I had a horrible fucking time finding a paisley pattern that matched the original style, or even one that looked good at all... So I said screw it, and painted the thing orange.

Someone should go on a quest, or something.
