Building Piezo P-up

For science fair (I know, lame 8th grade project idea) I decided to electrificisize my acoustic with a piezo pickup. I based the project heavily on Adam Kumf's site CLICK but it does not explain how to wire and solder in depth enough for my meager knowledge. I've tried twice, the first time I tapped the pup and it made a tapping noise in the amp, but didn't work when in/on the guitar. The second time no response, I wired it differently. I used a STEREO shielded audio cable and clipped the ends off, which revealed a small white wire, a red wire, and a bare bunch of strands (the shielding?) not knowing what to do with the [shielding?] I twisted it into a usable wire and soldered it. If anyone could make up a schematic on how to wire it, or if I need different parts it'd be great. Thanks!

Don't know how much extra help you'll find in here? It'll take some reading.

Thanks, I'll read through some of that. A guy at OffsetGuitars (holds up flame-shield) sent a link to cigarbox guitars forum, and they gave me a ton of help. I'm pretty much set for now.

EDIT: I already came across that
