I know they cracked down on the exporting but I was hoping for a loophole. With my impending trip to SoCal and my decision to pack along my '96 MIJ lefty jag I was trying to make sure that in case anything happened to it in transit I would have some option to replace it. WHAT THE HELL IS THIS GUITAR NOW IRREPLACABLE!?

I've always relied on ebay.
Talking to the owner of our local music shop last week and he says the industry is going to see a big shake up next year, mainly due to the world recession. There will be big changes with production, import and prices apparently.
He was telling me Yamaha Japan had cancelled all its worldwide xmas celebrations with German HQ announcing it to the rest of europe and a few companies are preparing for the worst next year.
It should be interesting how the situation will effect ebay prices.

it's seemed over the last year or so on the bay, the japanese stuff has really become/remained very pricey over it's mexican counterparts...

I've determined that the only difference between CIJ and AV axes is that CIJ axes come with ebay pictures about 15x shittier. All else is equal.

This is just retarded. I paid $600 for my Jag (granted they had a price tag of $1200 on it)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Fender-Japan-66-Rei ... m153.l1262

That is identical to my Jag in stock form. What the fuck.

sad eh ?

it's another thing i love about the cij fenders, way more lefty friendly. plus every cij fender i've held just felt way more glossy and smoother than the american or mexican ones no joke. so build-wise they're super. saaaad times.
because over here shops are a bit more slow you can still find a lot of cij fenders (not just strats and teles) at shops, especially the shops that take in secondand stuff. i saw a 65ri stang for 800eur a while ago. which isn't such an 'insane' price over here.

That seller also has Orange Competition Mustang I've been wanting. I only have sell 2 or 3 of my guitars & get the nerve to order something internationally.

it also kind of hurts to know you got your jag for 600 in the 90's whereas now if you want one of those import money and shipping included it'll be a bargain if you can stay under 1000 for a lefty jag :? (ishibashi)

Actually I bought it in 2000, hence the reason why they were cool with a $600 "loss" on it as it had sat unsold for 4 years. I first saw it in high school in about '97 and drooled over it for years.

Yeah, super sad that we can't get a fair deal. Fucking lefty 'crimination.

That would be scary. I don't think I'd do it honestly.

Well the guy's got great feedback, but if it got damaged in shipping that would be a nightmare. Still people in other countries order internationally... I'm a long way from being able to order one anyway.

I mean, selling off a few guitars to drop on a bet that everything would be cool on an intl order like that. Not the ordering overseas part. Worst case scenario you're out all your guitars.

I just pray to hell my beloved Jag doesn't get destroyed on this trip. I played it last night after letting the neck reset from an adjustment and I forgot how amazing it is. I couldn't do without it.

Yep. Next year = Price Hike City.

Fender have already raised theirs a chunk and we'll see it hit online retailers when they order in new stock.
Marshall and Orange are not going to be long off.

It should push ebay prices up I think.

Oh well, this is just year one of at least 3 years of mess we're in. Sit tight and enjoy the ride.

I see what you're saying, but I won't be selling all of my guitars. Just 2 or 3 of my least played ones. I could see where there's a difference since you have lefty guitars, which are a lot harder to come by.

I ordered one of my guitars off of a japanese seller on ebay. He had good feedback, but still I had never bought from over seas before and was a little concerned. It's the capri orange competition and cost (I think) 899 bucks and another hundred for shipping. The guitar made it here in 6 or 7 days and there was a hole in the side of the box. I had a sinking feeling when I opened it, but was relieved that there was no damage. I must say the package made it here faster than some shit I've bought from within the states.
