Help me talk my girlfriend into buying this bassman.

so there's this silverface bassman ten (410 combo) on craigslist. it is in immaculate condition, and the guy wants 485 for it.
my girlfriend needs an amp but for some reason she is hesitant. WTF, right?
it wont be around long, i figure, so somebody say something that will make her buy it. c'mon.

Where are you located at...
I'd offer 450 cash for it..they usually go for 4-450 here in SoCal and in this economy 400 may be reasonable offer.

wow, thats alot cheaper than i thought. there is one on ebay with like 2 days left, at 500 already.
okay, we'll shoot him a deal.
we are in tulsa ok so probably it should be cheaper than youd pay in cal.

Actually, they are probably cheaper out here as there are tons of gear around where I live...I live in the north of San Diego County so when looking for something, I can look in San Diego, Orange County, LA, and Riverside county for gear and there is always plenty for sale... I.E...San Diego craigslist will some days have 3-4 pages of new gear adds.
I would offer 400 put be willing to go as high as you are comfortable... If it is in great shape, 485 is not out of the question by any means.

well, truth be told ill probably be lugging it around. im 6'3" 200 lbs and she is 5'0" 100 lbs.
so yeah, matt (drummer) and i willprobably be the "roadies." at least as far as the heavy stuff.
good point tho, i know those multi speaker combos can get pretty weighty.

right. but those are super pricey.
i only recently discovered how cheap silverface fender amps were. why? is it just collectablility or is there a serious quality gap?
how do silverface amps stack up to new fender amps? because a late 60s/70s silverface bassman for 450 seems like a no brainer when a hot rod deville 410 is like 900.

Silverface amps are better then new Fenders by far. Sound better, better build, easier to repair, cheaper. In most important ways, they're the same as Blackface Fenders. The only real difference is the PT on some of the post-77 models when they went to ultra-linear transformers. Even the ones with changed circuits can be put back to blackface specs very easily.
The only reason they're still so cheap is all the strat+pentatonic corksniffers who think they need a brown or blackface for their SRV LIX!!

I want a bassman 50 or 100, or a bandmaster reverb head.
That being said, super reverbs and bassmen 10s are still great amps. Just heavy.

i recently saw a social distortion pic where mike ness is useing two bassmen heads(both 50's, one with a drip edge)
and needless to say i have been looking around for a nice cheap one and you can score a 67-69 silverface head(ab165 circut, same as blackface) for 300-400.
so a bassmen 10, which is basically the same(aa circut) with a master volume is a good buy.
i think shad has one and is in love with his.
james is the leader in knowledge with these things tho.
in short.
vintage tube amp. 4X10 speakers.
for less than 500 bucks.

i guess the difference might be how they were only around for two years and black/silver face was like for 10 years?

Nice amp, one sold in Raleigh recently for 500$... Not near in as good condition.

have her go to buy it. the guy will be more willing to negotiate. have her hardball the guy.
They are great amps. I have a 71 bassman 50 head, and a 69 I sold. my brother has a bassman 10. they were all very different, but all amazing and worth every penny
