I'm looking for more info on the neck widths of MIJ resissue mustangs.

Mr Maxima's Mustang history (jag-stang.com) says that all jap resissues have A width necks.

However, the '65 reissue appears to have a B neck (google specs). Also, a user on here has said '69 reissues have a different neck to the '65 resissue.

A = 1 1/2" wide at the nut. (40mm?)
B = 1 5/8" wide at the nut. (41mm?)
C = 1 3/4" wide at the nut.
D = 1 7/8" wide at the nut.

Can someone please clarify? Anyone able to do a metric conversion?

I have a '94 MIJ. It measures as a "B" width.

The misnomer that it's an A width came from the Japanese catalog. A bunch of people repeated it until it seemed true.

TBH, Mr. Maxima's site is only slightly more accurate then a random guess.

edit: 1 5/8" is 4.1 centimeters.

Which model reissue do you have?

You would be confident that all resissues have "B" necks?

All standard Fender necks have been B for a long time. Perhaps the strat XII and things like that have been a bit larger.

As far as I'm aware A width hasn't been available at all since the days when you could order custom colours and things like that.

Jap Mustangs are definitely all B width. I suppose it's possible that they have some A width ones as Japan only models, but everything you see in the US and Europe is B.

According to my conversion an A neck would be 38.1mm, and I haven't seen this nut width on ibeke-gakki.com & fender-japan.com which would cover most of the jap only models.

Strike that, Reverse that! Ok, My Jap Competition Mustang reissue neck width is 1 1/2"(or 1 8/16"). That means it is an A NECK. I have not played a 65 reissue, but all other ri Mustangs HAVE AN A NECK. Now, My vintage 65 Mustang stamped 8 NOV 65 B has a neck width of 1 10/16"(or 1 5/8") which is a B neck if that wasn't already apparent. Also, I have a 50th anniversery Jap. Jazzmaster which has a neck width of 1 11/16". If I had to guess I would call that a C NECK. I asked this question a week ago about Jaguar necks & got one response(thanks Purplehaze19x). Anything I had read before hand was all conflicting. I would hope there was a difinitive answer here amongst all the knowledge. Not so much. Only thing you can really trust is your own measurement. That should help.

so all other reissue mustangs have an A neck..... but we shouldn't trust you.

69 RI mustangs have a B neck
65 RI mustangs have a B neck
compstang RI have a B neck

you don't need a ruler, just trust me.

i am going to have to agree with pretty much everyone else...
all the stangs, and even jaguars have the same nut width.
i believe that fender is too cheap to offer another sort of nut width to the public(these days) without charging an extra 400 bucks.

hell the fucking john mayer strat they built with out a back plate and charge you extra for not giving you a back plate

could you imagine if they made some sort of new invention called a thin neck? it would cost a mint

Rob you have me laughing at myself. Thanks for that as I needed to laugh. Now I know that if I want someone to answer a question to post the untruth as the answer. Still though, my reissue compstang definitely has an A neck as I have a certified B neck to compare it with. But you say otherwise. I would prefer it to have a B neck, but it isn't so bad having both. And Yes, Correction: All other ri Mustangs I have played(several) HAVE AN A NECK

i will dig up the measurements of nut width on the 96 jaguar, and 96 jag-stang.
the j.s is.....40.5 according to my ruler, but thats being bent under the strings.

1994 jagstang = 41mm
2002 compstang RI = 41mm
2006 mg65 RI = 41mm

hell even my little duo sonic neck is 41mm at the nut

My steel ruler is at work so I can't bring the science with great accuracy, but with what should be enough accuracy, my A width neck is...

39mm across the whole nut
33mm from the centre of the thick E to the thin E
