Korg DS-10 Demo

This is a quick, quick demo. It's one file, and you'll have to download it I'm afraid. Everything in this was done with a DS going straight in to one track in Kristal Audio Engine. There was only a bit of cutting done to patch everything together. Unfortunately, for some reason I am unable to monitor whilst recording, so whilst recording all of this, I had to do it without knowing what it would sound like.

The first minute or so is a fairly standard type thing, although it probblay could be a lot neater, particularly the bass part, which is a bit farty sounding. This has been recorded in stereo, with panning done within the DS. from thirty seconds to the end of this, I've gone through each voice putting it on solo, again with teh mixer within the program. The second part is nice and messy, and involves me fucking about with the synth settings whilst they are playing. Remember, this was all done 'blind' so at the time I had no idea what this would sound like. I then mess about with the effects (flanger, delay and chorus) and then reduce the number of steps in the tracker form 16 to 1. I also reduce the tempo from 120bpm to 10bpm. The purpose of this was to show how well it deals with long, stretched out impulses. Unfortunately, this didn't work as well as I would have like, as there is one sound that isn't particularly interesting and that dominates the whole lot. Ah well.

I really want to download this thing again now, I really didn't look around it as much as I should have.

Also 40 meg is a bit steep for a 4 minute file, so... hope you don't mind but I mp3'd it, mainly 'cause I wanted to keep it but not have a 40 meg wav file knocking about. Uploaded too:

Nice one. I wasn't sure what I was doing, and didn't know what size to expect it to be (in the past, any stuff like this that I've done involved fairly large sessions in pro-tools, and burning to DVD, so I really didn't have to pay attention, like).

There's roms all over the place for it. I couldn't get any to work on my DS, but it turned out it was a firmware issue with my card, so I'm not sure where this one came from. Give us a second, I'll see if I have one.

Aw, you'll need that too. I can give you a joystick, if that's any good. She's a vintage article.

You should probably try to get Electroplankton. It's a bit simple, and hasn't a lot of depth, but I think it's worth having if you're going to fuck abotu with stuff like the Korg on the DS. It allows you to record quick snippets of voice, like, which could be useful.

you and that bloody joystick.

i've got electroplankton, it's quite fun but still very limited, good with a pedalboard. foud me ds too, it was in a shoebox for some reason.

I was going to buy Electroplankton for ages, and now I'm really glad I didn't. I got bored of it in no time at all. Still though, i don't think I'll ever take it off the card.

okay, this thing is fun as all get out, i've no idea what i missed before. it's great for making that old casino style music, or just messing about with the controls live and making acid house or something.

Yeah. Wish I could find a manual though. I've worked out what everything is apart from the patching screen.

It's great though.

Heres some moar simple DS-10 noodling, this time with guitar, mandolin and programmed drums in the mix to see how it fares. Very well I think:

I'm a sloppy timekeeper and I didn't feel like second takes, plus reaper was having some latency issues [/excuses]. I really can't reiterate enough how much I like this, I WISH I'd had this on the plane to autralia last year. I would have been awake for the whole 23 hours.
