Fender Road Worn Series

So Vivadeluxe and I went looking for a Strat for him today, and the last shop we went into (Dawson's) had two of the new Road Worn Strats and a Tele, each at £859. So just to see, we had a go the sixties Strat one, and I have to say it was really nice, like really nice. It felt exactly like the Custom Shop one I played in Atlanta. It sounded bloody fantastic too, Viva had more of a go than me 'cause I hate playing in shops, so he'll probably have more of a say than me, but yeah, great guitars. It's just the cost that's fucking preposterous, obviously. They were about £30 more expensive than the USA Standard :/ I have to say that I think I would snap one up if they weren't so hideously priced, and they felt much more "comfortable" than any other MIM Strat I've played, probably down to it being "worn in", albeit not genuinely. I've quite changed my opinion on them after seeing the quality first hand, but I'm afraid the price tag still is a huge downer on them, if you want a relic'd instrument it might as well be a second hand Custom Shop jobby to go for, in my humble opinion. Anyone else had a go on these?

Haha.

I don't doubt they can be good guitars. The Japanese do it. This is a just a way of reducing damaged return stock.

Guitarist loved them too and basically said the same thing - that it's a great way to get the Custom Shop feel at a lower price. If they were £600 they would be flying off the shelves I think. Maybe in a year they'll be cheaper. Guitarist are pretty accurate with their Fender reviews in my opnion, except the Classic Player Jaguar, which they completely got wrong.

I played one in guitar center and Thought it was a great looking relic, didn't plug it in, but the necks on all of them felt nice and broken in like my Coronado.

Yeah pretty much what John said...
All the other dings and wear on the body are a bit silly... but the 'worn in' neck actually feels really nice, I took to it straight away...
I was surprised by how it good it sounded, even thru a hot rod... £200 cheaper and I'd seriously consider one..

It was quite amusing, normally in Dawsons they ask you to remove your coat when you're trying out guitars in case your zip scratches the finish... The guy behind the counter was about to ask me, looked at the strat, then said 'actually you don't need to bother' and handed it over...

in my shop they have the white strat, a 3ts strat and the tele.

i didn't really care about the 3ts strat or the tele but the paint on the white one looked fucking amazing. it was aged to like this color you knew was white but looked pale blue.

really cool looking.

the others were shit though

I saw them in guitarcenter the other day. I kind of see what people mean about the relicing being the same on every guitar but it's actually not exactly the same. I thought the fretboard relicing looked really fake though. too clean. fretboards that are played enough to wear the finish off get incredibly dirty.

The fretboard on the 50s strat is rubbish, dead fake, it just looks like someone's been at it with a brillo pad
