rumley baritone

Post by william »

never heard of this luthier, but damn, this is a cool guitar.

not often do i see a tele copy that i like even close to as much as a real one. and ill bet it feels nice too, as they made the neck shorter and pushed back the bridge, which IMO is a better design for a bari (the bajo sexto, for instance, has a super long neck and probably is very neck heavy. on a bari, i really don't need the highest frets anyway.)

the headstock, too, is amazing. such a subtle re imagining of the fender headstock, but different enough to be original and good looking enough to be lovely.

its only 450. i wonder if it plays/sounds?

I love that neck, darker wood necks aren't done nearly enough on fender style guitars.

I just keep thinking it needs a neck pup. Besides that I think it is cool... Not digging the pine (I think due to the knot) body. If you are going to do see through finish a better qaulity wood would be better. Althought knotty pine goes with the whole western thing.

headstock's all right. . . seems they've somehow managed to make one look even more penile than a tele's does.

A baritone with no neck pickup, why?

you guys must have weird looking dicks. mine looks nothing like either.

also, yeah, its really western. but we have always been about taking guitars meant for other cultures and adapting them to our own, right? jazzmaster?

im glad its getting semi-ok responses, i thought i was gonna get dogged over it.

i kind of like the knotty wood, too. the finish reminds me of a holga photo.

You do know when he said western (I assume) he meant like, wild west sort of western? Not western culture.

Might be wrong.

jazzmasters were designed for jazz, not noise rock or surf, or indie, or shoegaze. for example.

subcultures have to use the guitars that the companies made for the masses. thats all im saying.

yeah but what is your point? you don't make any sense. jazz isn't a culture, it's a genre of music. a guitar "meant for other cultures" would to me define a guitar meant for people of different races or backgrounds or something.

he was simply saying it looks a bit western, not that the telecaster wasn't made to be a baritone or something.

anyway, i wanna steer this ship back around.

pickguard doesn't really fit, i think, the botton left looks like it needs a control plate there to fit that little curved indent or something, it sort of looks half finished.

whoa. im going to have to ask you to turn it down a few notches. where is this aggression coming from? are you a bit surly?

jazz isn't a culture? well it certainly was, if its not now.

you have a really narrow view of what culture is. race is culture but music isnt? thats really interesting.

"Culture or civilization, taken in its wide ethnographic sense, is that complex whole which includes knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom, and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society."

says Edward Burnett Tyler.

doesn't say race anywhere. you seem to think that culture means where someone came from. it really means whats going on around them now.

any time someone creates something, they are contributing to the contemporary culture, their context. thats what culture is.

jazz in the 20's 30's 40's... that was a way of life for many people. like hip hop since the 80s. or cassette/lo fi/ DIY culture in the 80s 90s (and now, depending on your local culture.)

anyway, i only have been plenty cordial and light this whole time. not sure why you are all up in my biz over this. please go back over the conversation. what did i say?

I know that culture doesnt equal race but when you say "guitar made for other cultures", "other cultures" implies that we have a shared culture between us. I don't know about your musical tastes, I don't know about your musicals tastes and quite often the phrase "other cultures" means people of other race and backgrounds etc so the only culture we share as far as I can see is being western and I assume white, hence me assuming you meant race.

If not that's fine but it wasn't clear.

I wasn't annoyed I was just confused as to what you were arguing.

dude nobody said you couldn't play that guitar.

They just said it looked Western and Texas, cause it does, it was just an observation on the design aesthetic.

ahahahahahahaha, this thread is lolz
