How long has this Viking RI been out?

I just saw one of these today. Bolt on neck and everything - much closer to the OG then the other Viking RIs. Felt OK, but was $480 which seemed a bit hefty. The model is "IIP".

I don't even think these were at NAMM.

What a travesty of design.

I thought this was going to be a thread about a kooky Gretsch reissue.

I don't understand what's going on with these. When are they going to do some proper reissues that actually look like the originals? It's like they're trying to do a Burns London but just not getting it right at all. It works for Burns because they make the bodies, headstocks and pickguards just like the originals, whilst slapping modern Wilkinson upgrades all over the place. It doesn't matter if the headstock of a Bison is married with a Marquee, they're still unmistakably Burns. Not so with these. None of these really say Hagstrom to me at all, which is made even worse by the fact that the two I've tried are really, really nice players.

That black one othomas posted is pretty close to a 70s viking, except for the set neck. I like the 3+3 headstock, since it's not the obvious fender rip off of the 60s and has its own identity. Also the new ones still use the coat of arms on the tailpiece which is another authentic touch,.

the set neck just looks fucking wrong. the pickups are in totally the wrong place, and the bridge is up too far, and the strings atretch way too fat from the tail to the bridge. its an es335 with a harp tailpiece, not a viking. and the S holes are fucking awful.

the first one has a samick headstock. i dont think i need to say any more.

you can almost get a vintage one of these for that price.

edit- just to prove my point, if you want mine its 700 + shipping. it needs a new nut, and after i get it ill post it in classifieds. if someone seriously wants it, PM me and ill get on that motherfucker. its a 65 two tone burst, with no pickguard, all else is OG and in vg condition.

me too. to me thats one of the things that makes OG vikings neat. and its like a perfect fender HS shape, like a preCBS jazzmaster, with the slight curve, not straight like strat, not goofy like CBS. just nice.

Yea +1 on that. but what are they gonna do, they obviously can't reissue that. they could do a slightly modified fender headstock like the later 80s Tokais or the ESP fender copies.
cogito ergo sum...thing or other...
