My pal Bobby just got this, so I thought I would post some pictures for those wondering what they look like IN REAL LIFE. It is INDEED very awesome for the price. Amazin'. Even the toggle switch feels great.

i played one for about 45 minutes in a shop today while some dude was looking at some `54 avri strat

he ended up buying the duo i was playing cuz he couldn't get the tone he wanted out of the strat.

therefore duo sonic are obviously still better then strats
(the price is nice too!)

what did you think of the neck?
i was hoping for a bit more twang out of the stock pups.. but that is nothing a couple class of `55's won't be able to fix.

Skwiyah may never move that bridge pickup back to where it belongs, but things otherwise looking pretty solid up close. I played one at GC Hollywood this time around and it felt great.

bridge pickup gap haet, still can't get over it.

other than that it's really nice.

The neck is SUPER GLOSSY. I didn't really "play" it since I was just over doing computer work all day, but the whole thing feels like it should sell at least for $400-600. Way better than any mexican fender i've touched.

The colour makes me think of Werther's Originals. Paedosweets in guitar form.
It's very... cute, for want of a better word. Like a Guitar Hero version of a strat.

Definitely.

I got one too quite recently and it's just great.
I changed the chrome bridge saddles for brass ones from my CV Tele, which has compensated saddles now.
Also I put on dome knobs i.s.o. the barrel shaped ones and gave it chrome tuners.
Nifty instrument this.

I had 10 minutes with one in a shop a while back, you really cant fault it for the money and the chinese have obviously got their shit together now concerning production. My only criticism is the bridge pup placement.
I wish Squier did more of this kind of thing, like the Cyclone they did too.

...They still look/feel like toys to me, as the body is so much smaller than a trad. Duo... And they're a bit cheap, but for some reason I keep thinking they ought be cheaper

The detail work looks ok though...

i haven't really had the opportunity to play one yet, but im still kinda stuck on my duo, so im sure i would find some reason to not like it as much.

I did never underestimate Chinese people.
They are a huge force and amonst their millions and millions of people surely there must be at least a hundred with a clear mind about guitars.

I bought one of these last week. I've never been so undecided on a guitar. I just can't decide if I like it or not.

On a related note, I have a chance to buy one of the Classic Vibe Teles for $170 this weekend. That's a great price...trying to decide if I can justify two guitars in one week.

Bloody hell. He wasn't being close-minded or Racist. It is a fact that the early Chinese made Squiers were pretty low-quality in comparison to the Japanese and Korean equivalents.

Believe me - a more open-minded group of people you will not find than the membership of this community. I love and play two MIM Fenders other people sniff their nose up at (wrongly) because of the country of Origin.

I guess you are referring to my reply on quote. Words like Racist or close mindness are yours not mine.
I was not saying this to start a flame war, only to assure you that Far East people have the ability to make excellent guitars.

I read a review of this in a guitar mag yesterday, needless to say they were VERY impressed. They said: "quality you don't normally see on a sub £500 guitar" or something along those lines. They were esp taken by the finish on the frets/neck edges.

Most of the time the quality differs because of the amount of £ the company spends on making them, the country isn't important.

That's my whole point. The distinction between them is derived from prejudice. All the 50s and 60s Fenders that people covert were build in a Factory by Mexican labour < 200 miles from the current Mexican Factory. From my perspective as a guitarist, I make my own mind up based upon guitars I have played, as does Fran. He has played many Fender and Squier guitars of all origins and knows what he is talking about when he says that the quality of these new Chinese Fenders/Squiers is a vast improvement on the original output.
