Hey Guys

I have been back and forth on selling, keeping, color choices and more regarding this project.

I have finally come to a decision, here is a mockup of what i have decided to build (minus the jag/jazz tremolo) as it is a jagmaster.



There is still alot which needs to happen to finish the project, but i decided to install the "clay dots" today.

I followed what Jazzblaster did http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/index.php/topic,19512.0.html, but i decided to use Lepage plastic wood (its all i could find in the garage at the time, figured i would give it a go)


Drilling out the pearloid markers:

(Hint - Try and drill as close to the center of the dot as you can, otherwise you risk fretboard damage when popping them out if they dont break or come out on their own.)

Plastic Wood slathered onto the fretboard:


Let dry for a few minutes, and scrape off excess material:


I then doused it in oil for the fretboard (the Olde English brand, the label is gone off the bottle)

And don't laugh, the nailclippers came in handy, the cuticle pusher worked quite nicely to clean around the dot area.







From a distance, looks pretty good

Heres a pic of a real '64 Jaguar neck with clay dots, and my jagmaster neck as a comparison.




Next up! Prep the body and headstock for paint!

Wow, good job! It looks great, except on a few markers there seem to be indents, or it's just the photo. I wouldn't trust myself drilling into a neck *shivers*. Cant wait to see the rest of the project.

I left indents intentionally, so less material will come out as the strings move along the fretboard.

I checked the jag before doing it, it has indents as well, so i left it a bit concave on purpose.



as for drilling the neck, all you do is use a smallish drill bit and drill out the center of the dot, then screw a screw into it, and it breaks.

Are you using a Jagmaster as the body?
It looks like you're turning it into a hardtail, does this mean you'll be filling the Trem Route?

I kinda like the indents.

The whole project is a vista series jagmaster.

24" scale

I am using a full block strat tremolo off of a 1988 62ri japanese strat. it wont be hardtail.

AH alright, I was figuring that you were gonna try to do the whole "fill the jagmaster with wood blocks and glue it down/re-route needed areas."
Wide rangers? Or are those just for the sake of the example?

Just for the sake of the example, the dressing room at OSG doesnt have just a plain covered humbucker.

Might also do chrome covered p-90s, really unsure for the pickups atm.

Looks good, but you shouldn't have left indents. How many guitars do you know with concave fret markers? Maybe Yngwie's.

on the 64 neck I have they are concave, and i've seen and heard of others with the same thing.

Lots of hard work went into it, planning, painting, polishing etc

this looks simply stunning, you did a great job on this guitar. And best thing about it, you didn't change the layout of the guitar at all. Great work

Otherwise it looks like you've done a fantastic job on it, just call it what it is: a modified Jagmaster and a well done one at that.

WHERE IS WRHB?

looks great. is it white on white? or pink? would play. only thing that would've made it cooler, would be a modified jazz decal that said jagmaster. cuz it's hardly a jazzmaster. pics of jag?
