Guitar cables

I know everyone has their own views on guitar cables etc but wouldn't mind a few ideas! My local shop only stocks cheap stuff and I'm thinking of trying out a few to see what the differences are in tone etc. I've been thinking about ordering a George L and a Clear Tone to try out. Has anybody got any other ideas to try or anything good/ bad to say about these cables before I order online?

My main guitars are a Fender Jazzmaster, Fender Telecaster Deluxe and I have a Baja on the way (I had to order before the prices get bumped up even further). By the way, I'm not very practical so making cables/ soldering etc isn't really possible!

Cheers

George L's are good if you're looking to have a nice bright snappy sound. If you think you've lost some top end, I would thoroughly recommend them. They're easy to make and can make your pedalboard look ace too.

I use Leem Hotlines for long lengths and Venom Adder patchcables for my board. They're cheap but well made. All the jacks are screw on/off so cables can be repaired.

Do you stalk Mike?

If he did it wouldn't be very accurate Stalking.

Jazzmaster and Telecaster Deluxe are history.

The Baja is the Telecaster that anyone (who isn't left handed) should own if they have a budget of around £300-£400. Otherwise they should own the Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster.

At £110 more than the Squier (don't know if it has been affected by Fender price hike yet), the Baja is still a ridiculously good deal when you consider the Wood it's made of, the Custom Shop Pickups, the neck, the bridge, the electronics. Everything. It's insane.

Yeah! Ha ha - no...I wanted to get a Fender Telecaster and did a lot of research on you tube, various sites etc and came across Mike's demos...just what I needed to know. I couldn't make up my mind which one to get and the Fender prices rises forced me to get them both. My local guitar shop isn't well stocked or that great so unfortunately I have to either read magazine reviews and use the internet or pay £200 to fly to the UK to check out guitars etc.

Oh by the way, I bought the Jazzmaster in '96...so a bit before Mike's time...didn't even know he had one!

I think I bought mine in 2000 second hand at University and sold it some years ago. I can't remember when, I think we were in the house, so 2006?

You sold it not long after I joined shortscale. Possibly pre JVM or just after.

I buy whatever is cheap, so I can't necessarily recommend anything. However, I can tell you what not to buy:

HOTLINES. Worst, most prone to breaking, shittiest sounding cables I have EVER used.

It was sold to fund the Tiny Terror purchase. Definitely pre-JVM.

I've had a few Monster cables that were always very sturdy, unfortunately, they always get lost.

i use shitty shit that i should replace. i use a good weird super overbuilt 10' cable from guitar to FX, but then whatever pedal im using goes thru a cheap hosa 3' rubber jobby into the amp.

i really really need to get one more decent cable. sounds like george l's are the shit.

I've been using Stagg tweed cables for years, because they look good and they're long. I think I've had about two break, ever, with constant use.

yeah stagg don't break easily, if you don't mind the way a cable affects your 'tone' (like i tend to do with bass not so much with guitar because i like that noisy, as long as it doesn't muffle) then they're good buys. i've got one of those tweed ones tOo it has christmas colors and my cat pissed on it once when it was lying on the floor so it smells em..super now. lol

I've been just going with Monster cables lately, I got tired of shit cables shorting out all the fucking time. Monster's are stocked locally so I just bought those. I have no brand loyalty to cables, they're just fucking cables.

monster ftw. the only thing their warranty doesn't cover is sloan's scenario. i've got a couple of these babies that have been around for nearly a decade.

Somone mentioned these on here a while back when I asked a similar question

I ordered some they are pretty good quality jacks, cheap (I have no idea how they compare to something 'name' like the george L's but a really smart company

hmm i might order some of those. neutrik jacks aren't to be sniffed at.

wouldn't expect the actual cable is too great though.
