how do you guys like them?
i was thinking about a thinline tele, but the MIM Fender version goes for about $1000 over here

so i decided to look somewhere else, and found these G&L ASAT Classic Semi-Hollow, they're about $450-500. i guess that's made in Korea, but whatever - seems like nice alternative to Fender anyway.

i can't remember if i've seen anybody on the board mention G&L at all.

hot or not?

thanks in advance!

Chico Malo has a G&L tele. Pretty nice, I played it once. Not sure of the specifics on it though.

We used to have a ASAT standard tele at the studio and I thought it was quite nice.
The build quality was decent in that I didn't find anything wrong with it and the hardware seemed on par with higer end Fender.
Three tone sunburst finish was okay without being spectacular but then again, is sunburst ever really spectacular?
The ultimate redeemer with this thing was the pickups. Boy did they ever sound great. Like a cartoon version of the tele sound, somehow more telecastery than an actual tele. I never really got along with it because the neck felt too clubby for my taste and I couldn't deal with the headstock shape but I that's just me. The guy we sold it to was super horny for it. It was a bit embarrassing to wittness as he was buying it as a first guitar for his kid. (talk about a great first guitar.) Anyway, easiest sale ever. I'd say $450 is a good deal, that's how much ours went for.

THey are great. Chico's was once mine, then sold to RobOg, then sold to Chico.

I have had 4 G&L's and they were all GREAT guitars... Both the imports and the USA made.

Go for the one with the MFD pickups. They are a little like a p90 but clean up even better in my opinion....AWESOME..

I would'nt mind a G&L but im not re-mortgaging for any guitar. They are expensive to the UK.

the G&L i bought from mickie was fantastic!
i loved the damn thing so much, the only think i didn't like about it was the hardtail style bridge, i wish it had a trem.
other than that, its the best stock guitar i have ever owned besides my AVRI jaguar(man i miss that guitar)

my stepdad has a USA g&l legacy, like a strat. its amazing, really great feeling neck, good strong pickups.

can't speak for the imports, but if they are pretty close then they are worth the money. seems like they arent too pricey at all, unlike certain import fenders these days.

I would'nt know the difference to be honest, all i know is they always come up expensive on ebay. Never seen one in a store. Was'nt there one called the 'asat' or something? Like a Tele? I remember it being reviewed but never saw one for sale anywhere.

there was a used commanche(mid 80s model) at guitar center a couple years back, had leo's signature on it and everything and i want to say that it was only 400 bucks or so.
and it was great, had an all maple neck, strong bridge, great pups, and it played like butter.
if G&L came out with thier version of a jaguar i would most definitly check a couple out, the G&L quility is awsome.

I have a ASAT and love it. Fun fact: ASAT name comes from Leo when he said he was shooting for a mix between a strat and a tele. A Strat And Tele, A.S.A.T.

These things have terrible re-sale value so you can get some cool ones on eBay in America if you search.

Wonder why this is.

This happens alot with good brands like Hamer and G&L.

Because of the fact that everyone wants a Gibson or Fender they hold value bettter. It's not really a reflection on the quality of Hamer or G&L. It's just a situation of brand name recognition and demand .

I suppose when you mention Hamer it sort of makes more sense. It seems sort of even stupider with G&L though. It seems silly to reject a G&L because you like Fender things. It's like saying you don't like Heavy Weather because you like Jaco's solo stuff.
