How do you block a Jazzmaster Trem?

tighten the screw all the way down that you load the trem arm into?

the ajustment screw, just tighten it up all the way.

You tighten the tension screw behind the trem-lock until it meets the trem-lock. It's locked down when the trem-lock is pointed away from the neck.

you know its working when you cant pull up on the reverb handle (whammy bar), but you can still push it down.

no, your intonation will be fine, just detune the strings and tighten the screw all the way, and then re-tune.

Okay, just want to get this straight before I go and fuck something out of proportion...I need to tighten the screw down all the way and once it's tighten all the way down, I just flip the button towards the bridge (away from the neck)? And that's it?

I think you have to hold down the whammy bar then slide the button, then tighten the screw, Right? thats how i did all of my Jag/Jazzys

don't even worry about the button, press it all the towards the bridge, and tighten the screw, no biggie.

True. but i use the button just in case i break a string it will not throw the guitar out of tune.

but if its tightened up all the way then if you do break a string then it still won't go out of tune.

Cool so just tighten her down then aye....I just put a mint guard on there and thought it was time to try and block it cause I used it once in my lifetime and it sounded like a dying zombie.

the jm/jag trem is pure heaven to me, but its not for everyone.
just tighten the bastard as far as you can, rock it and see how it works.
BUT! unless you are experiencing tuning problems there really isn't a need to do this.
other wise just set your trem lock into place.

Yah, I haven't had any tuning problems other than jumping grooves with the bridge.

Can you lock the trem without blocking it totally with the button?

o, get a buzz stop or a stang bridge to help with string jumping.
otherwise get rodvonbon to set it up for you, he knows what he is doing.

Yah, I'm flat broke right now otherwise I'd get a bridge/get it set up proper. I thought about filing the grooves some, making them deeper (Aen's suggestion) as a solution until I have some money again.

try grooving them, if you fuck up, you can always ajust the saddle accordingliy, and or, just flip it over and try again.

Alternatively, you can raise the bridge and shim the neck to increase the break angle, which will stop string jumping by some minute amount...

The Jag/JM trem is stable enough even without disabling it, but I often wish it had the range of a Stang...
