so i've had this black `71 mustang for almost 2 years now
and we've never gotten along that well it an i.. i think its the fact that i don;t like the neck much.
anyways the prev own also put on some locking tuners and fucked up the head stock.. not much, most just the looks of it

but its got mojo

i was gonna trade it for a jag earlier in the month but due to the above issues it didn't pan out.. so it goes.
i picked up a new guard from James that i was going to put on a different mustang (that in an ill advised plan i had cut my own humbucker route.. anyways its gonna have single coils and maybe i'll up date that thread later..)
Image
so old ugly shrunken vintage pealoid pickguard
Image
remove the guard
Image
almost no difference in the colour
panda yu looks at them both and tells me the black one needs some sanding

he then plays on a 67 sonar drum kit for a while

figured better not let the pearl go to wast, fuck the humbucker

plus now everything is sexy again

...
adjusted heights, got that same shirll vibe i go for, and i'm set for my gig on firday
black on black..
just need some new tuners for it now.. i almost want to go matching headstock.. but i think its better if i just return it to klusions and call it a day.

very cool, i almost like the MOP better, but it reminds me alot of the shad-stang with a rosewood board.

wait a tic, i just realized, 71, didn't they do just compstangs that year?
i didn't realize they did solid colors, is it a re-fin?

that lil bit of paint on the treble side looks blue to me, and the heel stamp says 71 right?
i would guess its a re-fin, but without actually seeing it in person i could be completely wrong,
rodvonbon would be the man to ask on this.

i think they may have phased out the matching stocks by then.

In 1968 Fender released the "Competition" Mustang with "racing stripe" paint and painted headstocks. After mid '71 matching headstocks were no longer applied.
Here's the answer about matching heads.
