How are your monitors hooked up?

I've just got my first Interface and I'm ready to get some monitors for it but the outs are only 1/4.... is this a problem is XLR any better and in which case should I get my hands on a small mixer?

Or if the monitors take 1/4 themselves does it makes absolutely no differnce at all?

How are all you people sorted?

Do you know how the 1/4-in outputs are setup (e.g., TRS or TS connectors)? And will you be using powered or unpowered (with an external amp) monitors? I have three sets of monitors two are powered and one is unpowered. The powered monitors both have combo connectors (either XLR or 1/4 TRS). For the unpowered set, the amp takes 1/4-TRS inputs. The outputs from that amp to the speakers are on a barrier strip I think. At any rate, you should be able to use 1/4 in balanced cables (TRS) from your interface to an amp or monitors and be fine. Just take a look at the monitor or monitor/amp combo you'll be getting; but more than likely they'll accept 1/4-in connectors as well.

Mine are hooked up by 1/4" balanced TRS cables, I'm pretty sure there's no real advantage to XLRs over these, but I could be wrong.
