My Jazzmaster. His Jazzmaster.

Post by riotshield »

Morning.
Recently I got a nice AVRI Jazzmaster built this year which after replacing the bridge pickup with seymour duncan ant.II (not big difference to be honest) made me a very happy owner. Up to now I have been using only japanese/mexican/korean guitars, by that meaning the cheaper versions of the guitars I really wanted. One day I decided to sell everything but the japanese jaguar and try to get an american jazzmaster.
I didnt do that cause Im impressed from all that snobbery of USA! vs. other factories but as I understood after playing the jazzy I got, it really made a difference at least compared with the guitars I had till then.
(Small parentesis, the korea made Gretch G5129 hollow body was amazingly sound AND construction wise but unfortunately it was not the sound i wanted in the end)

So, I was so impressed as I said until Thursday when I got to play a beautiful, beat up, vintage '79 jazzmaster with block inlays and bound neck (see here actually). This guitar feels and sounds so different than mine. I wont go into details cause it makes me sad, I will just say that when they made those reissues, well they made a pretty good guitar, but still its quite far from the original stuff.

BTW, the neck of the vintage was more narrow, almost like a mustang, is this how they were supposed to be back then? if i can get a vintage neck from ebay could i put it in mine?

yeah, jaZzy's are stu[id high.
i remember a vintage jag and jazzy from like 62 would be right around 2 grand, the jazzy might be a couple hundered more, but now, whatever you would pay for a vintage jag, tack on about 500.00-1,500.00 for a jazzy of the same year and condition.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed to death or not, but with the Fender price increase things are only going to get crazier. The CP Jazzmaster now starts at $1070 on Musicians Friend! Weren't they $800 a month ago?!
