zaphod's (reece's to the nubs) demos thread.

Post by Reece »

i tend to mess about making ambient stuff in reason alot and i was gonna waste today doing the same but i thought fuck it, i'll see what i can do with just a 4 track me guitar and keyboard.
here be the result. it gets a bit boomy nearer the end 'cause i clipped the mic during the guitar and didn't notice until i'd added other stuff.

i'm halfway through doing another ambient thing on 4 track at the moment, i might finish it up tomorrow and post.

new'un:

the only form of "keyboard" i've got with me here is the korg ds-10 synth for the nintendo DS thing and the closest i can get to reverb for nice big swells is the delay on it so it's not great.

nice stuff, i especially like the chord changes at the end of the first one, gives it a bit of structure.

right. decided to turn this into my demos thread since i record alot of random demos (3 since that last one on thursday to be exact) and usually they get recorded then left to stagnate on the hard drive until it crashes again and i end up with a blank slate. at least if a few people hear and like them then i'm not wasting my time.

this song wasn't supposed to be the way it is now, it was originally gonna be another ambient number and as a result it's about 2 minutes longer than it should be and the structure is lacking a bit.

not sure what to do with that sort of chorus in the middle yet.

dude, this is nice. though IMO its more 'placid' than 'ambient,' at least by my standards for ambient (tim hecker, william basinski, aphex's SAW vol. II, etc.)

really, this is more of a compliment than anything. i it reminds me of the first broken social scene record, 'feel good lost,' which is one of my favorite sleepytime records. one time i had one of those transcendental moments listening to that record while driving right after it had snowed, on a really dark night. the first track you posted takes me there again.

also, it has plenty of structure, not just in the chord changes at the end. it may not be a pop smash, but it has a definite key and 4/4 time signature throughout. hardly freeform.

incidentally, 'reece?' what? i didnt even know who the hell reece was until i revisted this thread. im gone for two days and my life gets flip-turned upside down.

late night iron & wine cover. (i love doing iron & wine covers, i do like one a week).

this song is an unreleased demo so most haven't heard it. i've got three albums worth of his demos and two of them could be released as they are and they'd still be amazing.

sort of lo-fi, using some cheap dynamic i found at home through the 4 track as a preamp into audacity.

bizzump.

demo for a new band song. i think i've found what our sound is. i love doing a whole bunch of tracks and having them all together so theres loads happening. bass is dodgy 'cause it's played in reason and i think my guitars were a little out of tune so the pitch perfect bass sounds a bit off.

we shan't talk about me keeping time either.

I really like this stuff! Especially the first one, and the panning of the different guitar bits on the last one is awesome. I have loads of 'demos' that I've recorded. I might have to steal your thread idea.. :P

Really nice, Reece. As with other stuff you've done after a minute or so I go back to working and completely forget I'm listening to an amateur song, it could be an instrumental on many albums I love.

thankyeh mike and dan.
it shall have lyrics soon, mr singer has written them and has a USB dynamic mic in the post so he can record proper vocals at home.

i wish i had that first song you said that about mike, i really liked that one. it went in the second hard drive crash and all i've got is a bastard mp3 with dodgy reason drums on it.

i'd rerecord it if i could work out what bloody chords i was playing.

► Show Spoiler
needs something adding inbetween the choruses to fill it out a little more i think.
