Ok, I picked up a Mesa LoneStar head

Yeah... Clean headroom out the wazoo...

So yeah, now I'm looking for a cab to match, I have very little cab experience, so yeah, any recommendations (it has 4/8ohm jacks)

Budget of about 600-800, I will be more than happy to go under that, but thats what I am floating around.

Would Orange be a decent idea?

Buy a used MESA STANDARD cab.
I've done a lot of cab research and it's by far the hugest sounding one.
It's loaded with Vintage 30's and is actually oversized. The mesa stiletto/traditonal is a regular sized cab.
MESA STANDARD cabs seem to have the smoothest sound compared to anything else I've heard clips of.

Orange cabinets are well built and heavy, but have way more pronounced midrange.
Marshall cabs with v30's are brighter with more mids as well.
I think Avatar's cabs are kinda like the Marshall cabs, they have new ones that look like Orange though.
Vader cabs seem to be a little more bright, they use Eminense legends. These would be great for touring, they're coated in that truck bedliner stuff.
KRANK cabs - i don't know much about them, but i'm guessing there's not much to write about since most people with KRANKs end up wanting a MESA STANDARD.

check some megastores, take the top with you and ask if you can play through the cabs then buy the favourite secondhand but if you're going for a shot in the dark sloan seems to know his mesas =)

If you're looking for a 4x12 I definately agree. I've used the Marshall standard 1960A and B (Still own a 1960B) and never got the sound I was looking for out of them. The Mesa gets that great Vintage 30 tone and makes the Marshalls seem like toys. It's taller, a little longer, and weighs a TON! Even the casters are bigger! I should take some pictures... Anyway, the Mesa should definately be on your short list of cabs to check out.

Also one other question,

I'm going to build a 1x12 or a 2x12 open back for when I am playing with my church band. I've never built a cab before but I have been reading a bunch of stuff on construction and I am fairly good with wood.

One thing I can't find is how speaker watts is related to output watts of my amp.

I've read somewhere that a 50 watt amp can actually be putting out 60/70 watts at peak?

So what do I need to do speaker wise then for my Mesa?

Granted this thing wont make it past half master power playing the church gigs (especially with an open back) what do I need?

Or if anyone has a website for me (I've been searching google to no avail) I'd be more than happy to sift through the information.

It looks like the LONESTAR has switchable wattage up to 100w. I'm pretty sure you would be safe with a 60/70w speaker as long as you don't crank it up in 100w mode.
