I just scored a Squier '51 over the weekend and it had stupid stickers all over it. I yanked the stickers off but how do I get the adhesive residue off without damaging the finish?

Just put a sticker over any ugly marks that have been left behind.

I've used a bunch of times to get off stickers and stuff.
Or, sometimes for the hard to remove stuff, you can tear of a piece of masking tape, gently apply over the area, and remove and it should grab the left over.

it's one of the many uses listed on the back of the can. goo-gone is probably just rebranded wd-40.

Naw goo-gone is much better.

It's in a little bottle like this, does not smell bad, and is not greasy.

Already tried that.

I piss on all my guitars when I first get them. You know... marking my territory. ;)

I've had luck with Kit car polish from auto zone on Poly finishes. You have to be careful not to leave swirl marks, though.

My MIM strat was covered in stickers, completely removed with goo gone, covered again, and then completely removed again with goo gone. Goo Gone is awesome with stickers. Peel the stickers off as much as you can, then use Goo Gone on whatever you can't get off, just use that and scrub it with a paper towel. It's really simple and works really well.

This is the closest picture to what it used to look like the last time I covered it in stickers. There was a lot more yellow electric tape on the pickguard, but I had removed it before this picture.

And I haven't taken a more recent picture since I fixed it up and removed all the stickers and the dice knobs and returned it to stock looking, but I assure you it looks great after the goo gone!

I've only ever used lighter fluid. Works perfectly. They sell bottles for a buck at my local dollar store, so it's the cheapest option I've found.
