Question regarding transistor vs ic/opamp
I was just wondering if anyone could clear up for me what the main difference between these would be. I have been reading up on how EH changed the big muff from transistors to ic for a few years in the late 70's but then changed back for some reason. Apparently the ic version is a bit harsher than most big muffs? Anyway if anyone can give me some insight it would be appreciated.
The Euthymia ICBM fuzz is an op-amp Big Muff clone, and there's a little history on the product page.
I used to own one of these pedals, and it sounded pretty damn good if a little noisy. I only sold it 'cos there was no 9VDC jack; also, the lack of an "on" LED drove me nuts.
