Ive had a thing for SG juniors for some time but i've never found one that my bank manager would like.
So I've finally found one but it isn't a Gibson but a Tokai, so I was wondering if anyone has one of the cheaper Tokai,
are they any good and is there anything that I should look out for in a Tokai.
Anyway here is a picture of it

I've not had a go on their Gibson copies, but their Fender copies are top notch, seriously good guitars. I know people who rave about the LPs in comparison to Gibson's, I think Fran had one? I'd say that you couldn't go wrong with Tokai.

I would echo that sentiment, without ever having player one though.
I'd imagine it's a safe buy.

The Japanese Tokais are made by the same people who make Japanese Fenders from what I have read. If this is true as a fan of Jap Fenders I'd say the quality is very good.

Thanks for the help
for £199 even if the pickup is weak I could swap it out and it would still be pretty cheap.

Tokais are amazing - I used to have one of the MIJ SG copies, and I loved it to bits; if I'd have been patient enough to wait for a white one, I'd still have it now. Now, these ones are Korean rather than Japanese, and there is a difference in fit and finish, but they are still ace guitars. Also, if they are from that eBay seller who takes photos of his guitars on a slate tiled floor, he's a cool cat, knows his product, and hand picks decent guitars.

Is it good enough for Kelly Jones though?

Reading the happy tale of matocaster's guitar being recovered, I was wondering what would have happened if the same series of events had played out in the UK. Pick any one from the following:
"I understand mate, no one needs to know." *taps nose*
"Impossible - Fender didn't start making Telecasters until the release of Born in the USA."
"Can't shift it mate - no demand for rhythm guitars round here."
"How dare you sell it - good enough for that woman out of Sleeper, good enough for you, sonny Jim."

I think the majority are Chinese made now Benecol, "under Japanese supervision though" a few retailers have been quick to mention.
I had a Korean LP and it was ace, i also had a Jap Strat years ago which was also good. I think at £199 you wont go wrong Starbuckered, my pickups were great but its not uncommon to upgrade pickups on any sub-£250 guitar to be fair. Hmmm, i'm already fantasizing that SG with a Bare Knuckles dog ear P90 fitted..

Unfortunate hat/flag interface in that photo, rather robs him of his proud stature.

Hahah I hate it when you notice something like that and it spoils and renders the photo risible forever.

those look really really nice. the only thing 'off' is the pickguard, but that's ignorable, if not forgivable.
all the respected boutiques make nice p90's, youve got plenty to choose from.
also, my hum sized GFS p90 was great, ill bet the dogear is even better. and still cheap.
the stock pickup might be fine anyways, however.
