Volume pot UNEVEN taper?!

I just replaced my Jaguars japanese pots with CTS pots (1 Meg, each audio taper), and the tone pot seems to be fine, but the volume pot seems to have an incredibly uneven taper I can turn it to about 3 and it is still silent. Could I have messed something up, or is this just how it is. Also, they are really tall, so the knobs sit like a centimeter off the control plate, can a put a bolt under it to even it out? Thanks. PICS to follow. Thanks in advance.

yea sure, you can do whatever to even it out. usually there are two nuts. one that goes under (adjust this one to adjust how far the shaft sticks out), and then one that goes on top (tighten it down to hold the pot in place).
as for the uneven taper, yea, that seems weird. they're audio pots? like they say A1M on them?

they say CTS 1MEG AUD.
Im just wondering if I could have messed up part of it, like not soldered something right, but that wouldn't change much in the way of taper would it?

Any ideas? or do I just have to live with it?
