I purchased a mij jaguar about 6 months ago, and changed the bridge pickup to a hotrails, but its still not the sound im after.

the newer style hotrails are the only ones that fit without routing the body.

i was originally going to put a dimarzio hs-3 in the bridge and a hs-2 in the neck but they just dont fit.

now my plan is to get it routed out for 2 full size humbuckers and put an old dimarzio tone zone which i love the sound of in it

the thing is its gonna cost me a bit to do this, i just want to know if there and other other options anyone could recommend before i route it.

Thanks heaps,
Matt

the jaguar HH's are hard to come by in Australia and i didnt want to order one because it would cost me heaps to get it here.

i found a second hand CAR one for a fair price with a case so i bought it.

eh i dunno ill work something out.

cheers

Unfortunately it may not be as cut-and-dry as that, as Fender seem to not be able to get over changing the fretboard radius and bridge set-up every time they come out with a different pickup model. It's like they're scared to put out a humbucker option on the classic Jag, so they have to make a whole new Jag to justify changing anything.

Anyway I'll stick up for putting humbuckers in a regular Jaguar. My JB Jr'd CIJ Jag is waaaaaaaayyy better looking and better playing than an all-black HH Jag, granted I've only really changed the bridge pickup and mostly use everything but the bucker now, but still. It's there if I need it.

The Duncan JB Jr, Lil '59 and Duckbucker are other single-sized doublecoils that fit in a Jaguar w/out routing, unless they've changed the style.

Yeh im gonna keep my jag and i might just try some other pups, ive only tried the hot rails ,i might try some jb jr's or some lil 59's, i want something with a bit more bass and the hotrails dont seem to be cutting it.

would the little 59 be the better choice? for more bass?

thanks

What about those Seymour Duncan SJAG-3s? No routing, and I hear they're pretty awesome for heavy styles. I'm a bit annoyed with my CIJ so I was thinking of getting a couple myself.

it's good for heavier stuff but it's still very much a single coil.

Classic Player Jag HH? I'm sure someone in Australia can order you one in. That's the best of both worlds, it's going to be as good/better quality than your MIJ, but with the humbuckers you so desire. If you got the MIJ for a good price, sell it for a higher, yet still reasonable price and try to get a good priced Classic Player HH instead. I reckon it won't cost that much more, if anything, than going down the new pickups/routing option.

I love that pickup. Good deep clear tone, great for heavier stuff.

i popped a duncan sjag-2 in my cij jag and am really happy with it.
it blends really well with the stock neck pup in phase.
sounds tops with all the different fuzz/od's i use and clean too.

you really dont need to start cutting the body up for tonezorz

those hh jags sell for about 1200 bucks and the classic players sell for 1700 bucks so thats still about 1200 US dollars, its not cool.

yeh i might just try some seymour duncan jag pickups.

i dont mind the neck pickup so maybe ill just go the bridge pup.

i was thinking that i have other humbucker guitars, and the should keep the jag as jag like as possiblem but with a heavier bridge pickup.
