Budget Offsets

Post by Fran »

I thought it would be interesting for people to post up their budget Offset guitars, guitars based on the designs of Jags, Jazzmasters, the JS, Mustang, Duo, etc... that cost little money. Anything, from 70s Satellite Mustangs to Serviceman Jags.
I can start the ball rolling with a guitar which is available via Ebay called a Wesley San Diego. Its design is based on the Jag/Jazzy but it has a Stratocaster set up: 3 x single coils, 5-way switch, vintage tremolo and 25.5 scale neck. Sonically its like a budget Strat and similar quality from a playability point of view.
Some nice touches are the matching headstock, cream pearloid guard and an excellent finish.
The guitar is very good quality for little money. I bought this to fit Lipstick pickups and modify but it is quite functional as it is. Lotsa fun that wont hurt your pocket! Unless you have huge bills like me

So, in true budget Offset fashion i did a little demo of a Sonic Youth song called 'Silver Rocket', as ever with my videos the sound quality is garbage but you can still feel the RAWK!!.

I sold an old Satellite 65-t on eBay last year. Sounded pretty good but it was tiny (hence the sale)

This is a stock photo as I don't have any of the one I sold, but mine was identical

Hodson surfcat, finish looks good apart from the orange neck tint:

If the surfcat is just begging to be plugged in, where is the jack?

christ. word harder, yeah?

"offsets are quite often know to have their input jacks mounted on the pickguard, this appears to not have, how queer. *chortle*".

Ugh, that was a poor attempt I must say, normally I can come up with them easy, but I guess I can't make guitar jokes. Eh, oh well.

Hodson make a 'Jazzcat' as well which has P90s, looks really good except for the beak-headstock. I think they retail around £149 which is still reasonable, although you could pick up a Squier Jagmaster or one of them new Dano Offsets up for not much more.
I found another company 'Shine' that has similar in more ridiculous colours like Lilac and Pastel Green.

Them Worship ones are the same price as a real Jagmaster.

That Hodson Jazzcat with the Rosewood/ Red tort looks very cool.

What scale are those new dano's? They are very cool looking and very affordable... I like that combination...

I think that guitar looks awesome, especially in that photo. I love the colour and the neck tint looks just right. The pickup configuration should be changed, 2 single coils would make it perfect and i would buy it.

i suppose my framus is a budget offset copy, budget in the sense that they cost a fraction of the price of a vintage jag. more on a par price-wise with jap reissues.
