Sure it wasn't a Shergold?
A friend of mine's got one - they are odd guitars. Do a Bass VI-ey thing that Peter Hook played, too.

yeah you're prolly right, for some reason the name hayman makes me think of bernard sumner, this one black guitar he had with a maple neck and i think a slideable pickup... guess i'm wrong

it was a shergold masquerader that bernard sumner had.
and yep, peter hook had one of the six string basses, of which only about 100 were made. the modulator one that tim posted has onboard effects, and apparently mr shergold thought it was one of his better designs. so there you go.
