Considering a shortscale project for summer

i'm gonna get a vacation soon and go to my hometown, so would like to give a shot on some guitar project build.
i am not yet definitely sure on what i'm going to do, but i certainly want it to involve some tele and/or jazzmaster pickups, shortscale neck, and probably a paint job, and it should be something relatively cheap - it's gonna be my first project.
thought i'd start off squier duo, just made this mockup:
if i'd be going to do a paint job, i'd have to refin, and as i've heard paint stripping is one awful process, so if i don't find relatively cheap blank body, i think it's going to be the duo butchering.
seeing as jazzy pickup won't fit in the neck position, i'm starting to consider something totally different. would be awesome to make custom shaped body with custom routing to fit my needs, but i don't have any tools, and experience. it could be possible to make a local luthier craft one for me, but i haven't contacted anyone yet.
so, tell me what you think

any advice is appreciated.

i can see it. ^
as for the tele shit on a duo, i think tele bridges look good on tele's, that's pretty much it. i've tried to find out what else it will look cool on, and IMO, tele's only.
the lefty bridge is cool, and maybe it's the colors that are fucking with me. good luck with it.

could do it simpler without the jag trem.

forgot about that one. nice. but that's a custom body or is it supposed to be a supersonic or something? duo is like double cutaway, and for some reason, those have always just seemed to clash.

I've seen Squier '51's that had tele bridges on them that look pretty ace.

I want the tele bridge not because of the looks (however I think it looks awesome), I just want a tele bridge sound. Yeah, I know, I should've get a Tele, but I don't like Tele body that much, and I want a shortscale.
BTW, I'm not sure if it is possible to mount tele bridge in there (Squier Duo) without many problems, could anyone provide routing shot of CV Duo?
