well things happen in life... and i bought this thing. cheap, with old silver case.
i feel dirty and filthy. and i like it... heh
no seriously, i can't stand looking at it. it could be SUCH a nice all-black guitar but they HAD to fuck with it. ok otherwise i wouldn't have gotten it cheap.
surprisingly i must say, this might be the most confortable mustang neck i've ever played. it's flatter than the other 70s i remember. and the sound of those pickups is glorious. really impressive.
i've now taken her apart to discover that that this guitar too used to be a sunburst one, originally.

but the shieldings and all that are still in there and in nice shape. non-original pots but they work a-ok. the nut needs to be replaced - looks like it was in fact used by a lefty at some point, so the nut slots are too big. there's quite a bit of fretwear but all still very usable.
the neck has been PAINTED. yes it's not the wood's color! that's some sort of yellow paint all over the neck, back and front of the headstock. AGAIN?! man i just finished stripping/sanding the neck of the mustang bass... geez.
still i can see the TORRES stamp on the neck. man this guy has stamped around 90% of all the fenders i've ever had. busy man, thanks mr. torres!
the logo is not a waterslide decal or something... it's weird, looks like it's been printed on the color. terrible. oh and it sez ORIGINAL instead of OFFSET. bah.
pickguard and pickups are original. grey bottoms - yum. btw yeah it's all '75. transition. white-button F-tuners but 2 string trees. black guard... etc.
btw, i've never seen a serial number stamped so near the F (see pic), but it IS original.
the silder switches are originals and work ok but they don't *click* anymore when changing position. weird. might need new ones too, then.
now, i'll think if/how this body is savageable still, and/or i'll be looking out for a beat old mustang body. (SELL ME YOURS!!!)
ok but now the pics!
have fun!
Pat.
