I like faded SGs but not the faded LP Studios, too ugly. The SGs look better because they're big pickguard so there aren't black rings with black pickups, and they look all 70s/corner-cut/beater Gibson.
That's a great deal on the faded SGs. I think that's what they should always cost.

i love sg's, but i can't stand those. the finnish has this unpleasant / damp feel to it. like someone super greasy just played it.

Well according to that other thread the SG Special (same guitar w/glossy nitro finish) is also going to be $699 now? I slept on it.

I like the fadeds, the necks feel nice provided you find one with a good fretjob. On nitro'd guitars, the necks are less smooth to play and your sweat and dirt from your hands clump together and rub off onto the finish. If I don't stay real neat-freak with my AV Strat and Les Paul they get downright disgusting, like, "someone splooged on it" disgusting.

yea it is hard to find an sg special with a good fretjob, but when you do they're great guitars. And I have to wipe the neck of my sg down everytime I play it or else it gets disgusting. The Singer in my band has a '61 reissue and he never wipes it down after shows.... and it's white, so the back of the neck always has this disgusting black stuff from his sweat and dirt building up on it.

I really like the feel of faded gibsons necks, just that wood feel, its so much easier to get around then a glossed up neck.

The necks on these are better than say, the satin finish ones that they put on tele Custom IIs and '51s.
That shit is like super fine grit sandpaper, it sucks all the grime from your hands and becomes one with it.
I was setting up my brother's guitar (a Custom II) yesterday and I was appalled at how encrusted it had become.
I mean, He's not one of these people that polishes his instrument like a marine polishes a riffle but I know he takes good care if his stuff. That thing was next level gross. Like a vagrant's asscrack.

Ok on second thought, don't buy one of these: SG Specials will be $699 soon, that is incredible. They're $1250 right now... which is even more than what the Standard SG is going to be soon. The merchants appear to be trying to unload all the Faded guitars, probably so they won't have to sell them for like, $400 once the Special drops so drastically in price.
$700 for an SG Special is a better deal than I've seen Gibson OR Fender USA offer in WELL over a decade.

The original run of faded sg's was awesome! They had ebony fretboards, and every one that I played had a great fret job. They're the ones with the crescent moon inlays, so if you find a used one of those somewhere definitely give it a shot.

I've even liked most of the newer faded SG's and LP's that I've played around with too.

Y'know I think Gibson are counting the faded red and brown as just different finishes on the special, so they're actually just selling these for $699 and the glossy black and red ones will still be expensive? I'd like to see where that $1200 std is at. :?

the extra $1200 is because maybe, just maybe it'll not be as shit as the faded.
