I quite like the black on burst actually. It's a good deal regardless though.

+1. It looks great. Are those fillertron copies in there?

This is a second gen Jagmaster, as evidenced by the bullet truss rod. but still a great fair deal.

Good eye. Significantly less good deal now, the main value of the vista's is the neck.

I've never seen a vista in sunburst before.

They're pretty common.
This is what an actual 96 sunburst should look like.
The one in this listing is kinda offbeat because of the black guard but also because the burst looks more tobacco-y than I've ever seen on any generation of these.
I would be weary of this seller because he comes off sounding like he knows what he's talking about but he claims this is a 96 when it CLEARLY isn't. Anybody involved enough with guitars to fuss over cloth wiring and crap should be informed enough to know that Jaguar necks don't have truss rod access at the stock and savy enough to check a serial number. It makes me think that he's intentionally trying to be deceptive. I would pay 380 for this ONLY if the colour is stock, otherwise, this is not a good deal, only a fair one.

Wow, that's a nice looker, burst and black don't usually look nice to me, but this one does.
Also am I the only one who noticed the middle of the link is FTW?

that's weird that it has the bullet truss, when it says vista on the headstock? and has vintage tuners? WTF? did later vistas have bullet truss?

I usually like black on sunburst, but that just doesn't look that good. And maybe I just haven't paid enough attention to all the colors that the vista jagmasters came in, cause I swear I've never noticed one... or maybe I have seen one but automatically assumed it was a new one... that's probably what I did.

My understanding of it is that bullet truss rods Jagmasters are Late 97 and 98 models. Still proper Vista series. They just started using the same similar necks as the ones they put on Super-Sonics, instead of dwindling down the stock of Jaguar necks at the FujiGen. This is what I refer to as a second generation Jagmaster. These aren't as desirable as the first generation for obvious reason but are still miles ahead if the two Chinese models I and II.
You can always tell the Chinese from the Japanese appart by looking at the placement of the pots and switch (the japanese are layed out like a Jazzmaster) but the neck is the ultimate giveaway.
Heel truss rod access - 24", 22 frets - Jaguar headstock = 96 MIJ, sometimes CIJ Vista series Jagmaster
Bullet TR access - 24", 22 frets - Jaguar headstock - skunk stripe = 97-98 CIJ Vista series Jagmaster
Truss rod route - 25.5", 21 frets - Fat Strat headstock - skunk stripe = 02-05 CIC Jagmaster
Truss rod route - 24", 21 frets - Fat Strat headstock - skunk stripe = 05+ CIC Jagmaster II
