BobArsecake pointed me in the direction of this here site so I thought I'd make my first post and say hello.

Also I wondered what everyone reckoned of this

Its in a shop thats quite local to me so I could maybe go in and haggle with him see. Not that I can afford it mind.

Personally I wouldn't pay £599. It's a vintage guitar, looks decent condition, but at the end of the day it only has one pickup so it wont be that versatile. I would rather get one of '65 RI Mustangs, which are slightly cheaper and really good quality guitars. If you never use a bridge pickup however and you can bring the price down a bit at the shop it might be worth it, but I wouldn't get it at that price.

I would go for it. its a wee bit more of the web price of a Mustang reissue *£565 but instores they're going for £800, which is fucking daylight robbery.
If you can't afford this maybe head towards a Squier classic vibe duo sonic £299.

i'd say that's way too expensive. if it was £400, maybe, but you'll never get that price from a dealer unless it's a bit fucked.

if you're just looking for a decent shortscale, maybe opt for a CIJ jag or a 65RI mustang, if you're set on vintage you'd be better looking at US auctions or holding out for something a bit more reasonably priced here. for example, i saw a lovely '62 duo-sonic go for a shade over £600 a couple of months back.

My 78 Musicmaster has the best neck of any of my guitars. Also, MMs of that era are the only MMs that are routed for one pickup only -- meaning that unlike earlier MM's, they don't have wood needlessly carved out for Duo-Sonic/Mustang pickups & controls. (The downside there is that you can't just set up a second pickguard with 2 pickups for an instant Duo-Sonic.) I'd say go in and play it if possible, see what you truly think of its strong/weak points, and then see what you can do about the price. For guitar plus case, I wouldn't go above about $700. What's that, about 450 pounds? If Fender prices are higher in the UK even after you work out the exchange rate, then I suppose you'd adjust that price higher....
