I am going to be buying a nice delay pedal soon. I love using delay and I currently use the delays on my cyber twin to get what i need. But i am ready to get a fairly nice delay pedal. I have been debating between the Line6 DL4 and the new Digitech Timebender. The DD-20 is out because i just really don't like it.

Line 6 DL4 Pros
-I have used them in the past
-so easy to work with
- sounds great

Cons
-Everyone has them, its a little boring.
-heard they break easy, although I have never had a problem with this in the past.
- has to have its own giant bulky power supply that i do not like.

Time Bender
-Pitch shifting with delay, sounds amazing
-Strum in your own delay patterns
-Tons of different pattern options to fit any song.

Cons
-Not sure if its true bypass, (this can make or break it for me)
-Seems difficult to learn, not as stage function friendly as the DL4
-Costs more moneys

So what should i do shortscale? If you have any other suggestions please through them out there. I don't know what to get.

you should get the the Line 6 eventhough i think it has 16 secs of Looping time & the Timebender has 20.

but the delays on the Line 6 DL4. i have heard every good things about them. so you should get that.

DL4 has 20secs as well. I have played with one of those just on loop mode for like 3 hours. very fun,

What don't you like about it? The answer to that will probably help people suggest a useful option than knowing what you like about the ones you do.

Good Idea. Its just to complicated to recall the presets I want on stage, ease of use is a big thing for me, I mean sure in a studio its fine, but live I need something i can operate with ease. Its a little to complicated, i think that they sound great. but its just a little complicated.

I'd go for the Line 6, but that may be a slightly biased opinion. I myself own the Line 6 which I love. It has 16 seconds(32 seconds in half speed mode) of looping. As for the Digitech Timebender, I haven't tried it yet, but if your looking for true-bypass go with the DL-4. It's great, 3 easy to recall function with tap tempo, and tons of fun oscillations.

true, the only problem is changing the presets.


If you don't like the dd20 because of chaging presets you won't like the timebender....
the dd20 isn't actually that good, it does normal stuff...i had one, tradede for the memory man with hazarai, i play more with the knobs on that think then i do with the strings one my guitar

i love my smmwh but the preset thing is a little annoying. only one preset per setting can get a little frustrating if you use a lot of delays.
also to change between presets you need to turn the white hazarai knob, so its basically the same as the boss

hmmm. the presets on the SMMwH are the only thing that i haven't bothered to deal w/ yet; anyway, i wouldn't mind having the Timebender: it looks like the Digidelay on steroids. I really wonder how the Timebender pairs up w/ more expensive delays like the Nova Delay & the Timefactor, more so than the DL4.

aside from the "everybody has one" & the rumors of breaking, i basically ruled out the Line 6 DL4 becuz of the looping time (i did not not know that it had 32 secs @ half-speed.)

Thats what I thought at first, but now I miss my DL-4. SMM/H has great sounds and capabilities, but changing presets is a bitch and a half. For a dude like me, Im usually in an improvisational enviornment, and having 3 presets (six if you have an expression pedal or switch) avalible with an easily placed stomp, puts the DL4 at the head of the class.

Never had a break or other reliablilty issue in the 4 years or so I rocked the fuck out of mine.

I think the DL4 breaking thing may be older units. I can not teel you how many people I have seen over the years gigging witht hese things taped up or only partially functional, but it was all people who had the for awhile or bought older ones. I know some heavy handed players that use them and have newer ones and hav had no problem. Maybe they beefed them up a bit.

I never noticed a "volume drop"...If I remember right it had a "blend" type of knob so you could keep more of the dry signal. With any delay pedal if you have alot of soaking wet delay its gonna sound like it drops in volume a bit, its not a booster pedal.

If you aren't AEN then you don't need to "switch" between presets on the fly. I had no problems back in the day about leaning down between songs and switching the knobs around on my DD3/6 boss pedal for certain songs. So much hate for Preset knob on the Hazarai, Stop being so damn lazy and bend down and switch the damn knob.

i never had a problem with volume drop either, and i thought the blend knob would work well to fix this if there were a problem.

i didnt care about bending over to turn the knob, more that you can only save 1 setting per sound.
if you use the 1 second echo for more than one song (which i do) you can only save 1 setting for it then the rest you have to remember and dial in yourself.

recently my bands set has starting blending the end of songs into the start of the next song where possible which can present a problem if you need to change pedal settings. so i can understand why people may want to be able to recall presets to avoid having an awkward silence on stage.

there is a noticeable volume drop when you loop things. not w/ the delay itself.

the preset thing. i mean i am pretty much a stick & stay type dude w/ certain delays so having a bunch of presets doesn't really make sense for me personally.

anyway. i think people should get the Line 6 DL4.

ahh, yea i must say i have realised that that it does sometimes seem quieter when looping live. although i wasnt sure if this was due to the band playing louder when i was looping something clean. anyway i have a booster pedal on my board for use with a kaoss pad mini which i just use if i feel i need to boost the loop

sorry that was badly worded. i mean i might hold a note while the other guitarists starts the next song so there is no silence on stage.

although i do record loops which i then fade out while the other guitarists starts the next song to. although to fade out i need to turn the blend knob anyway having to bend down. lol
