I have disposable income for the first time in years.

I'm buying a Kinsman pedal board, but I want to know what else I should get.

Powerwise, what's the best option, and can I get it at Maplins or should I order something online?

i'm getting the kinsman as well. seems excellent value at £35. i used to use the older style maplin supply. the ones that say ac/dc on the top. it's a good supply for up to five pedals.

What about for more than five pedals? Also, I'll need something that can power a crybaby as well as normal pedals.

my maplin power supply was shite. it could power a handful of overdrives but the second you give it a digital pedal (marshall rf-1 in my case) it would choke.

i like my diago powerstation, it's a bit more money but it'll power loads of stuff and it's tiny.

that's the beef i had with mine too. i've since gotten the trex fueltank Jr, but i've not set it up yet, because i'm both lazy and use to batteries now.

It's the same as the Diago but LOADS cheaper.
I have both - the Diago on my big board and this on my small one. Can't tell the difference.

And buy the specific pedal adaptors from Diago.

remember to invest in some decent patch cables (if you haven't already, that is). no point having a shiny new board and crappy 99p cables.

Would I have to look online for decent patch cables? The only I've seen are in the local guitar shop, all tangled up in a basket for 99p each or something silly. I only use one pedal at the moment, but my birthday is fast approaching so I figured I should probably find out about this. Would cheap-o patch cables seriously affect my sound?

the cheap coloured ones are crap, i've been cursing them for roughly 10 years. you can buy venom or similar ones online for about £2 each, definitely worth it.

yes, cheap patch cables tend to be very flimsy and not very reliable. plus, sound-wise, with cheap cables, i noticed that i was losing my high end sparkle. it sounded more muffled. there's plenty of choices for decent patch cables that won't cost the earth. i know the George L's are a bit steep, but so far i don't think any of the shortscalers that use them have had any problems.

1 spot combo, more expensive than the other one metioned but comes with an assortment of adapters

The Kinnsman boards are great value, I would suggest you get hold of some better quality velcro as the stuff it comes with is not the best.

the velcro company make some heavy duty stuff. i used it on my reel echo and (no joke) had to get something to prize it off my board.

cool, ill be selling my dunlop power brick and getting that diago clone or a 1spot.
i only have 1 18v pedal now so dont really need the power brick.

then a decent pedal board. at the moment i have 2 small boards i got from http://www.melmusic.com.au/shop/index.p ... uctID=9794
which are fine but having to plug/unplug cables and power before and after packing up is really starting to annoy me. i got them as i didnt think id be able to fit a bigger pedal board into the car to get to gigs.

and finally some good patch cables, maybe even george l's if i have the money

You get what you pay for, although I wouldn't pay £119 for one.

Happily, they seemed to pop up on Ebay fairly frequently when I was buying one, and I in fact got mine for a measly £50. The Diago daisy-chain thing is £59 (new) on Ebay. A friend of mine bought the £19.99 thing from Maplin and...threw it away. This was after Maplin refused to accept it was a complete piece of shit. He promptly replaced it with a DC Brick and is as happy as Larry.
