My Jag's Serial Number

Post by wheyyy »

is L 033422

however I found this
L + 6 DIGITS 1991-1992

followed by this
These numbers may be located on the back of the neck, near the heel of the neck.
The neck heel will offer a month and year of the Jaguar – An example would be SEP 96’
or AUG 71. Again, these are general rules to go by. If the guitar was refinished or was
faked, then there is no way to be certain what year it was made.

is the 033422 meant to mean a month and year? or is that sep 96/aug 71 for AV or vintage? im just worried mine is fake!

The serial number daters that are around just now, last time I checked anyway, are not accurate anymore. They can't accurately date my imported Japanese Jaguar from 2005(?), and I would guess that they're not accurate for the latest officially imported Japanese guitars either.

If you take off the neck, the date will be stamped on the neck heel.

This code is stamped on the neck where it's bolted to the guitar body and so not visible unless you take the neck off. On certain models it's useless/misleading. For example, all Swingers were made in '69 using modified old stock (typically '66) necks. For models that actually sold it's a good indication.

No. It's just a serial number, though not in strict sequence.

Posting detailed pics is your best shot at getting an opinion on its true age.

it's a '92 I'm sure. If you were going to forge a guitar, why would you forge a Reissue?

on my jag-stang there is a heal stamp, but i also owned a jag of that same type from the same factory and era that had no heal stamp.
it appears that you have after market tuners, nut, and a mustang bridge, and possibly different pickups.
its not a forge at all, its a genuine fender.
and they actually started re-issuing the jag in 86, but the matching stock didn;t start until about 95.
so my best guess is that its from around 95-97
just play the fucking thing.

I already told you, the serial number daters don't work for Japanese Jag's anymore. Just look at the neck heel.

All the Jaguar saddles that I've seen come stock on Jaguar bridges are threaded. This of course, excludes the CP series cause they come with TOMs.
Unless my eyes decieve me, those saddles aren't threaded.

Edit: no wait, they ARE threaded. Stock.

I reckon someone had a buzzstop on there. 'Cause the two front screws are missing from the tailpeice. They probably took off the buzzstop and then didn't think/care to put the screws back in.
