new tuners for the cyclone?

I don't know if I need new tuners for the cyclone, but mine just wont stay in tune very long. I will play for 7 minutes and the tuning on the first four strings are all over the place. I get the guitar set up and it largely returns to the same symptoms after an hour of playing. Should I take it to a different guitar shop? It seems like it'll do this no matter what strings I use. Any tuners you guys would recommend for a 2001 Cyclone?

dude, use lead in the nut grooves... have you blocked/sprung the trem? tis basically a short strat, can't be too hard. has it ever been properly set up?

sell it to me, i'll figure that shit out.

EDIT: vintage kulsons with og white buttons.

Never thought of lead in the nuts. Would white button klusons look good on a orange cyclone? I don't know how to properly set it up myself so I'll take it in again and see after that before I replace the tuners. IF I decide to sell you can have dibs...

Use pencil graphite. If you used lead and ingest it you could die etc. I expect that was what was implied anyway.

No clue... I've been drink quite a fe w pints and speaking german with friends that are, german. I'm going to try graphite on the nut after a string change. I've had the guitar long enough that maybe some upgrades are in orders for the w00t.

So I should get white klusons made for a mustang, if I decide to upgrade the tuners? Or should I get klusons made for a strat?

i was kidding about the klusons, but if you really must upgrade the tuners, that would be the way to go.

you'll have to find out what kinds of bushings you'll need.

Any 6-in line set of Klusons are what you need. Bushings are the same for all Kluson fittings, they'll slot in there without any problems. If you're looking to upgrade you may want to consider locking versions, but I've not seen them with white buttons. To be honest you don't really need locking, just set the guitar up right and change strings properly.

incorrect. this is assuming that the tuners that are on it are klusons. the inner hole size of the bushing may be the same, but the holes on the headstock aren't necessarily going to be the same (and now that i think about it, vice versa). best thing to do is get the guitar set up, and then think about replacing the tuners. set it up until it can't be anymore, and then spend money.

i'll assume the guitar is MIM, and i've had enough mexican fenders to know personally that the tuners generally last longer than you'll own it. they're not the best, but they ain't indonesian.

same tuners that go on jags, jazzys, mustangs, all that shit. his tuners are fine the way they are. in fact you guys are telling him to buy the same fucking tuners that are already on it.

how old are your stings?

new strings dont stay in tune for shit
when you put new strings you need to grab them over the pickups, pull on them fucking HARD and stretch them out. even after you do that, they are going to fuck up a little bit for the first day or two.

are you using the vibrato on your cyclone?

if you are wammyin' it alot its going to go out of tune


answer me these questions and then we can move on

I don't use the vibrato on the cyclone, and the strings are probably 1.5 months old. Although I haven't been playing the cyclone all that much in that time. Since it already has kluson style tuners already, I'm assuming they aren't locking tuners?

1). mine didn't. mine had mexican strat style tuners on it when purchased new. i had to put klusons on it, and had to buy larger bushings.

2). again, not everyone said to buy them. my first post i was totally kidding, and said "vintage" which is clearly asinine.

The Mexican Cyclones came with the Kluson tuners
the Indonesian Cyclones had the machine head type tuners, which imo are pretty good.

I would check something else besides the tuners for tuning stability
The trem is usually the first thing i tinker with when i get a guitar with a strat type trem.
If the trem has 3 springs, try putting 2 more on, and see if that helps.

Never thought about adding a couple more springs.... Probably much cheaper than tuners.
