all i did was remove the low E gently and it came away with the string. the mustang has become my main stage guitar and now i can't use her.

my strat was gonna be my backup for the mustang, but i suppose i could use it's tuners. it's always stuff like this that happens before gigs, i'm sure someone up there doesn't want me to play guitar :D

WTF. get it replaced by the shop you bought it from, that is ridiculous!

Manufacturing error or something?

if it helps, i've only ever had to use a backup guitar once in the past 2 years, and that was a string breaking. you probably won't need one, and if it has to be a les paul or something for 3 songs of your set it's not the end of the world. i doubt the audience will notice a sound difference.

but yeah, take it back to the shop after the gig.

Maybe it doesn't like being strung with such heavy gauged strings? First time I've seen a tuner break like that.

11s on a shortscale is a not a lot of tension. At all.

It is equivalent to 10s on a 25.5" scale guitar. It is clearly a manufacturing defect of the tuner head making it weak.

rang the guitar shop just after it happened, there gonna order a new machine head and install it free of charge. i must say, even though it's a little high priced at times, my local shop is pretty good for customer service. my new machinehead should be here tomorrow, they'll change and put a new set of strings on it.

the guy at the shop did say, that even though it's broke, it still might hold quite well. well enough for the gig saturday if the part somehow doesn't arrive.

i've tried it and it is holding really well, not going out of tune or anything. i'll still take my strat just in case though.

^ This. There'll have been a bubble in the cast or something. Unlucky Rob.

Pretty sure Aen tunes down to B/C and whatnot and would likely use something like .60 or something on his low E. I wasn't sure what tuning this guitar was, but that could have been a possible explanation.

What does Aen have to do with ProgRockAbuse?

agggghhhh you're right.

Was looking at his avatar and it looked kinda like Aen in his videos. Mistaken identity.

In that case it really is bogus that it broke.

i think the last time something snapped on one of my guitar was the trem arm for my strat. All that abuse it got at doogfest last year lol.

It's holding pretty well still. dreading going into the guitar shop, they have tempting deals on

you reckon it's worth getting a few spares just in case something happens when it's out of warranty? or worry about it then?
